September Baby – NYC Teacher Abroad

https://nycteacherabroad.wordpress.com/2016/10/15/september-baby

October 15, 2016. October 15, 2016. September is always a whirlwind. The start of a new school year, meetings, lesson planning, room decorating, training sessions etc. As a child, I loved September because it signaled the start of school, cooler weather, and my birthday! Now I just tolerate September. When your birthday is in September, it never gets celebrated. School has just begun and no one has gotten around to asking, “When’s your birthday? 8220;So, when’s your birthday? And I’d say. And I couldn&#8...

A New York City public school teacher ready to teach abroad - husband and two babies in tow. Love Not Hate Makes America Great. January 22, 2017. January 26, 2017. I had every intention of marching today. But the kids need to have passports done within 2 weeks. You can only walk in for passports at 2 locations in North Virginia: Duke Street Library and Merrifield Post Office. You must have original birth certificates for children. As mothers, teachers, nurses and beyond! Women’s March, January 21st.

In the Last Hour of 2016. January 1, 2017. Would it be too cliche to say that 2016 was a roller coaster of a year? It’s a good thing I like a thrilling roller coaster! The High Point: Realizing I Could Leave. Bulletin board behind my desk. The Low Point: I’m Still Leaving. Are we being fair to them by going so far away from family? Best part about moving away? The Earth Awaits Go Curry Cracker! November 8, 2016. GCC: Before we retired I looked long and hard for International cost of living/travel data. What I found was limited, vague, or outdated. Since then many sites and blogs have offered new data or a new approach. Recently I found a new favorite The Earth Awaits. Others like it too; it is currently featured on. I Pass – NYC Teacher Abroad

https://nycteacherabroad.wordpress.com/2016/11/06/i-pass

November 6, 2016. November 8, 2016. I recently passed up two job opportunities. Here I am writing a blog all about how much I want to teach abroad and I’ve fudged-up two jobs! The first was with a job in Jakarta. I had all my paperwork in, final interview scheduled and a great recruiter rooting for me. The phone started to ring at the appointed time and I hesitated. The pay is very low, but there is a very low cost of living as well. No money would be left over to put into savings. How soon can you move?

In the City of Sinners and Saints; Salt and Sugarcane. December 29, 2016. While sitting down for our second taste of Beignets at Cafe Du Monde, New Orleans, I got the email:. I’m sorry it has taken this long to put your offer together and appreciate your patience. I believe that you have the qualifications and experience that is needed … and that you will be a good fit in our school with our staff. 8221; I yell my husband. Which is why we were in New Orleans. Sleepless in the US. November 23, 2016. Remember not being able to fall asleep on Christmas Eve? Or the day before a trip to Six Flags? Or the night before the science fair? If you’re looking for more information about moving abroad and teaching in Qatar, you should check out my fellow teacher/blogger American Teacher Abroad. Kennesha has been inspiring me from the start and to have her rooting for me in this endeavor has been a great support! At 6 am (2 pm in Qatar) I settled into our building’s c...

On the 1st Day of Your New Job – NYC Teacher Abroad

On the 1st Day of Your New Job. August 23, 2016. November 8, 2016. On the 1st day of your new job:. You will be wearing a crisp, professional suit and stand out in a crowd of shorts and t-shirts. No biggie. It’s better to make a good 1st impression. You will need a Venti because you didn’t sleep the night before…preparing for said outfit. You will try to resist, without success, comparing everything to your last job. Your eyes will glaze over from information overload at some point. The Principal gave me...

Natalie’s Wedding Toast 7/30/15. Shopping for New Apt 3/27/14. I never have time to write in my fancy leather bound diary. Nor any time to write in an artsy diary I purchased in France with Monet’s. If We Were Having Coffee in September – NYC Teacher Abroad

https://nycteacherabroad.wordpress.com/2016/09/11/if-we-were-having-coffee-in-september

If We Were Having Coffee in September. September 11, 2016. Meeting for coffee with you is going to be quite difficult now that we are in different cities. You in New York and me in Virginia. But after the 4 hour drive (ok 5 because a bathroom break and fill-up in NJ is necessary), I’ll take you to a fabulous place in the Mosaic District that has delicious salted caramel lattes and funky, wicker chairs shaped like blobs. How will we manage without each other? Actually how will I manage without you? They&#...
