WriteFish: March 2014

http://clairelfishback.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

When you need a bigger fish. Monday, March 10, 2014. A Short Rant about Amazon Reviews. Hi Been a while, I know, and I don't wish to come back from a hiatus with a "grinds my gears" kind of post, but, well, here it is. I must pause here to confess I'm incredibly dubious of self-pubbed books on Amazon because I've been burned too many times by a book that doesn't deliver the promise in the book description. So, here I am, looking at some of the 5-star reviews and they are favorable and all that, so I move...

WriteFish: Finding Advice/Ideas in Unexpected Places

http://clairelfishback.blogspot.com/2014/07/finding-adviceideas-in-unexpected-places.html

When you need a bigger fish. Monday, July 14, 2014. Finding Advice/Ideas in Unexpected Places. Like most writers I know, I have my favorite list of blogs about writing. Writers in the Storm. For example, is one I frequent for tips and tricks and just to connect to the writerly world. Today I was scrolling through Facebook and found a blog with a topic I'm getting close to needing: Editing. The blog is directed at teens ( Go Teen Writers. B) As a pantser, I tend to discover the story while I write it....

WriteFish: August 2013

http://clairelfishback.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

When you need a bigger fish. Monday, August 26, 2013. I just finished reading a gem of a little book called Steal Like an Artist. It's a marvelous book that, all in all, reminded me to remember the little things about life. For me it was a combination "this is how you do it" book and a reminder to take time to stop and smell the roses. To notice things. To go and create and make things. Which brings me to an update on the current WIP. I have reached A Point. But I don't know who this mystery person is!

WriteFish: September 2013

http://clairelfishback.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

When you need a bigger fish. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. This week I am recovering from an amazing conference - Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers' Colorado Gold. It Was. Amazing. Day one - Master Class with the one and only Trai Cartwright. This chick is BRILLIANT. It was a character class called "The Last Character Class You'll Ever Need." I have to admit, I'm pretty sure the title is right. The rest of the time was spent in and out of seminars, workshops, and classes. And then, the drinking. I have bee...

http://clairelfishback.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

When you need a bigger fish. Wednesday, August 20, 2014. A follow up to the Letting Go post. Taking a time out from writing about writing to revisit the whole anxiety thing. Then maybe I'll post an update about my book. Remember back in April I wrote a post called Letting Go. Well, I wanted to follow that post up with the incredible time Fishubby and I had in Italy this June. Here's a line from that post:. And I was able to beat the time goal I'd set for myself. Mind over matter, right? I know it was the...

WriteFish: Updates on everything!

http://clairelfishback.blogspot.com/2015/03/updates-on-everything.html

When you need a bigger fish. Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Okay, maybe not EVERYTHING. But a few things that are on my mind right this minute. 1 In December, I took a 4 hours, 200 question test to obtain my PMP (Project Management Professional) credential and PASSED. 2 Work is hard, but easy, but hard, but sometimes boring, but hard. I know, weird right? I'm managing projects AND serving as the IT department admin (for 130 people). It's, like I said, hard, boring, hard, easy. 7 What else. Life is great!

This WordPress.com site is the cat’s pajamas. What are you Writing? January 4, 2013. What are you writing? Is it what’s in your heart? Do you write to please yourself? Do you write for money, or pleasure? Or a little in between? Does it even matter? As a person who works in publishing, I read query letters all the time. The one thing I have observed in writers is lack of focus on what they write and why. Is this detail important? Can’t a writer write fiction, and non-fiction? Where do I want to go? We ar...

The Writing Loft | A place for and about writers and writing

About Writer in Residence. A place for and about writers and writing. Building a “character” from the shoes up! December 14, 2013 by jjgilmore. Characters are the life blood of fiction. A good character description can make a piece of writing come alive. The characters I create have to have some basis in reality. I focus on the way they talk, walk, dress or something they like or hate. I create them from people I encounter I the real world. Writers always draw from what they know. Long hair or short hair?
