WRITING WIZARDS

Tuesday, August 3, 2010. One literary device that teachers refer to, and which students sometimes write essays to analyze, involves the concept of the unreliable narrator, someone reporting the details of the story who is in some way not trustworthy as the sole "explainer" or interpreter of events. The person's version of the situation becomes clear, quickly or gradually, as full of holes. One short story many have read, in which the narrator clearly cannot be believed, is "The Tell Tale Heart". When an ...

Stacie's Adventures With Needles: 10/23/10

http://staciesadventures.blogspot.com/2010_10_23_archive.html

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. Knee Socks are Back in Style! I admit right now that I'm not blogging today about any needle work I actually did myself. But I am thrilled to be the owner of six new pairs of knee socks. When they went "out" in the 80s, I just did what I had to, wore crew socks. But there are a bunch of great things about knee socks that crew socks just can't do. They keep more of your leg warm when it's freezing. They hide more of your leg when you haven't shaved in a while. In WWI, wom...

Stacie's Adventures With Needles: 02/10/10

http://staciesadventures.blogspot.com/2010_02_10_archive.html

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. Winding and winding . . . and cat fur spun into yarn! I have been swamped with work and sick with a nasty cold, but in the middle of a strange vacation week that I'm spending recuperating, I finally got out the toy I'd purchased in December, a ball winder. None of our tables or surfaces has the right edge for the clamp, so DH thought of putting it on a footstool we have, and then I realized that a tall stool was even better. At least I'm not missing school. Here, I recou...

Stacie's Adventures With Needles: Pillow Shamming

http://staciesadventures.blogspot.com/2010/08/pillow-shamming.html

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. Made a pillow sham for my sister, who has requested two for their groovy new pad in Palm Springs (smaller than the campus college apartment my husband and I had eons ago), and though I'm going to get to the best fabrics in good time, I thought I should make the prototype and get familiar with the pattern, so that when i actually do sew the ones that really matter, I won't futz it. What besides my marriage do I ever do straight? Anyway, Pillow Sham #1 is complete! A Fasci...

http://staciesadventures.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. With a Little Help From My Friends. I turned my first heel this week, thanks to Queen of Purple Yarn. My librarian friend from school, Kathy. In fact, it was her moral support, a well-placed stitch marker, and sage instructions ("follow the instructions exactly! The shop was ready to close, so Kathy helped me get all the stitches back on or "saved" so they wouldn't drop any further. Cut to the next day when I told myself, I can do this. With additional support from Jejune.

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. When Too Many Blogs Becomes a Bad Idea. I got to thinking that I should really just blog, mostly about knitting, but also about life in general, including but not limited to what I'm cooking. Then I got a nice kick in the pants from one of my favoritest bloggers, Bells. Who was just coming to the same conclusion. Great minds and all that! So here it is. Some knitting, some living, some various other things near and dear to me. Made with GGH Cadiz Unito. To make myself a ...

http://staciesadventures.blogspot.com/2010_07_24_archive.html

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. Conquering Even the Simplest of Sewing Projects. Talk about ambivalence- when it comes to sewing I go back and forth between courageous and insecure. This time it was a project bag for knitting, that I'd seen in Bells' recent post. She linked back to the tutorial she'd used to make hers, so I printed out the instructions and gave it a go. And immediately created something rather wonky and off-kilter. I'd rather not be bad at measuring, but if it comes to something I can ...

Stacie's Adventures With Needles: 06/13/10

http://staciesadventures.blogspot.com/2010_06_13_archive.html

Stacie's Adventures With Needles. It's been waaaay too long! I've gotten so bogged down in school, but it has now ended for the summer. Here's what I've been working on. Nephew John and his wife Carri had Elizabeth late last month, a bit early, but no worse for wear. This sweater will be one to keep her warm in the chilly Ohio autumns to come. I used Morning Glory (one skein) from my favorite local spinner and dyer, Yarn Lust. This was the super easy and confidence-building garter stitch baby cardi.

The Writingwolf: Words and Wonders. The words and wisdom of a wondering writer. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. The ABCs of GLBT. A Hundred Words of Gratitude. Lessons from the Pirkei Avot. February 25, 2017. I have a student who speaks badly about women, swears when he shouldn’t, and reacts poorly to perceived criticism and the consequences of his actions. Dedicated to reading, writing and red wine. World Book Day and resolutions. March 1, 2012. Happy World Book Day! It’s always lovely to be reminded of the joy of books and I’ll take any excuse to celebrate them so days like this are perfect. I fully intend to enjoy some clichés (Proust’s madeleines are bound to appear); I anticipate some culinary disasters; but I hope to simply enjoy myself. Dickens will be first up during the next week so I shall take myself home from Yo! Happy World Book Day! Is not goi...

The Writing Wombat | An American Marsupial in Fiction Land

An American Marsupial in Fiction Land. The Writing Wombat is a mild-mannered teacher by day, but at night he dons his fur and claws, reaches deep into his marsupial pouch, and engages the world with his Magical Laptop o’ Wordiness. Okay, maybe not every night, but once a week or so? Enjoy some musings on the world, sports, pop culture, and whatever else catches his fancy. And maybe a story or two. What is real? And why the hell does an American call himself Wombat? Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
