From The Backyard

A Suburban Woman's Quest for the Farm Life. August 05, 2012. More projects. Please bear with me! This stuffy office skirt was updated with an awesome antique ribbon and button. A plain but very artistic t-shirt from Sig Zane taken from plain to styled with an eye hole sleeve and widened collar. 4 T-shirts that were hitting the Goodwill pile, re-sewn and now I have some yoga pants! Both of these were dresses that didn't fit, now very usable. My owl sweater used to be Keith's but now totally MINE!

From The Backyard: April 2010

http://theyardenofeden.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

A Suburban Woman's Quest for the Farm Life. April 24, 2010. A Tale of Two Roosters. It all started innocently enough. The feed store told me there was no guarantee that it would be a hen, but it was so adorable with its feathered feet, I took my chances. When it started crowing, I was sure it was just a fluke - don't young birds go through a period of 6th-grade style identity searching too? Links to this post. Links to this post. April 22, 2010. From The Backyard: September 2010

http://theyardenofeden.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

A Suburban Woman's Quest for the Farm Life. September 11, 2010. The garden is not very cheerful right now. The tomatoes are browning and sagging, the squash is sprawling long and lean, and even the chickens seem to be slowing down. They have slowed to one egg a day between the three of them. Is it because they miss my attentions? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

From The Backyard: June 2010

http://theyardenofeden.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

A Suburban Woman's Quest for the Farm Life. June 23, 2010. From soil to plate! I harvested a whole crop of veggies tonight - beans, tomatoes, and these squash, purple carrots, and potatoes. Then the potatoes joined a few golden beets, and radishes from an earlier harvest in the oven to roast. Before. The squash was grilled in a grilling basket beside a marinated halibut fillet. can't you just smell it! Links to this post. June 17, 2010. Beautiful Chickens at the San Diego County Fair. A Suburban Woman's Quest for the Farm Life. July 27, 2012. Here are 5 more examples of making something new and exciting out of older clothes. I am having too much fun with this. Links to this post. July 09, 2012. My husband laughs every time I say I am upcycling, like isn't it just recycling, and I say no, it is upcycling, because I am making something better than it was. Or so I like to believe. You be the judge. A frilly crocheted hem. Detail of stitched-on leaves and beads. Links to this post. When I...

the yarden

Monday, April 14, 2008. Forecast: Almost warm enough. Maybe. Guerrilla gardening is fun. So in that case, I'll throw some around the chain link fence around the back of the apartment, too. Another cool seed I found that looks cool is Lunaria (Honesty, Money Plant). I have no idea how to grow it, but it says it likes partial shade like I have here, so why not. It looks like a bouquet of white butterfly wings on the seed packet, so why not. Monday, March 17, 2008. Time for the new Yarden. It's a low-light ...

The Yarden - Spreading the edible garden word!

The Yarden Spreading the edible garden word! Five (Make That 10) Heirloom Tomatoes We Can’t Live Without. April 28, 2015. Each year when the garden season ends my husband, Peter, and I have a conversation about cutting back on our gardening activities. We have a resolve. An agreement. A decision has been made. And then gardening season rolls back around. Read More ». March 12, 2015. When I’m on the speaking circuit and talking about Victory . Read More ». January 23, 2015. December 5, 2014. June 26, 2014.

WE PLANT IT. WE GROW IT. YOU EAT IT. Thursday, July 16, 2009. Orange Oxhearts in the Morning Sun. These are one of my favorites-they are so tasty and just massive. Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Because it's so important to eat your greens, and because your garden will provide you with an abundance of lettuce in no time at all, you'll need lots of different salad recipes to mix things up. The same old lettuce, tomato and carrot salad, while very tasty, won't cut the mustard week after week. Combine lettuce, corn...

Here are 11 things you may or may not know about me. I like dahlias the best. 1. I don't like strawberry ice cream, sushi, or base. This rolled into the backyard over the weekend. It belonged to B's grandpa who lived to be 100. He has been gone for a few years and the camper belonged. I washed the BABY furniture?
