The Year Cancer Stole: June 2013

http://theyearcancerstole.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

The Year Cancer Stole. Saturday, June 15, 2013. First, the Good Stuff. Good Stuff First, I suppose:. We're midway through June now, and it's safe to say that the drug trial I participated in did in fact work. Safer to say I must have gotten the actual drug and not a placebo as well. And then the trial happened. And my day 3 miracle, and suddenly. it was a weight lifted from my body. And over the next few days- the pain went from a 5 to a 3, to a 2, to . well. negligible. So that's the good news. In a...

The Year Cancer Stole: Acupuncture Adventure

http://theyearcancerstole.blogspot.com/2013/03/acupuncture-adventure.html

The Year Cancer Stole. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She did warn me:. It might make it worse. For a little bit. And in my head I laughed and thought. Like there’s a worse. And 9 hours later. I want to rip. The skin off my bones. And cut away the muscle. Until there’s nothing left. My bare empty chalk. Than what she left. From out of my. If only it was worth. The Year Cancer Stole: Flare

http://theyearcancerstole.blogspot.com/2013/04/flare.html

The Year Cancer Stole. Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Having a major flare. Woke up, called in a 9 for my pain score but now its even worse… Hands are hurting badly too. I know part of it is the weather changing again but omg. I’m in tears. If I wasnt going to miss both sessions of this class next week I’d probably skip today. Going back to bed for a bit and hoping this gets less extreme by the time I have to be up. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. There was an error in this gadget.

The Year Cancer Stole: Dare to Hope

http://theyearcancerstole.blogspot.com/2013/03/dare-to-hope.html

The Year Cancer Stole. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Sometimes when I think about how next week (the 9th) I start injections… and how they’re supposed to work… and work for up to a month (sometimes 2)… I start to get hopeful. I start to remember what it was like to have free use of my own body. What it was like to take off to the lake at sunset and walk around until the sun went down. What it was like to meander around with my camera. I dare to hope that maybe for a short time… I might get that back.

The Year Cancer Stole: Truth in Advertising

http://theyearcancerstole.blogspot.com/2013/03/truth-in-advertising.html

The Year Cancer Stole. Thursday, March 21, 2013. They nip and tuck. In this year’s. To ease their way. When they talked about. The big black spot. Wasn’t just simple. Like they showed me. But this isn’t. What they sold me. But the ad-man says. I should just be. That i am simply. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 8230;about all sorts of stuff. All posts by Achariya. So I have a website…. I have a few, in fact. Sometimes I forget about them for, um, years, and then remember that I used to put my thoughts down on the page over here. Sometimes it’s difficult to want to write about my life. For a few years, I’ve been mulling over the fact that a few things that seemed eternally hopeful about life just — aren’t. I’ve been reaching to Buddhism lately to fold in a lot of what’s going on around me. The second and third N...

Prompt 6: Do you have a Plan? Do you need a Plan? | Achariya Writes

https://achariya.wordpress.com/2015/03/03/prompt-6-do-you-have-a-plan-do-you-need-a-plan

8230;about all sorts of stuff. Prompt 6: Do you have a Plan? Do you need a Plan? That being said, I must admit that my childhood is probably responsible for my perspective on making plans for the future. Growing up, my family moved every few years, and this constant, restless motion kind of curtailed my ability to think farther than two or three years down the road. Can I join the school choir? I asked Grandma Stone hopefully. No, because you’ll probably be back in Hawaii soon. Can I have a cat? That’s w...

8230;about all sorts of stuff. Prompt 4: A high-heeled shoe, a rubber dog bone, a burned out pot, a piece of jewelry, an old pair of pants. Last night, my daughter left a dripping-wet trail from the shower to my room, calling my name. “Come here, mama,” she said mysteriously. “Come look in the bathroom.”. 8220;…Did something break? 8221; I asked. 8220;No, just come here! My child grinned at me. “I want one color on each nail, please! 8220;How about this weekend, when the light is good? This is probably w...

Celebrating my ordinary self | Achariya Writes

https://achariya.wordpress.com/2015/03/18/celebrating-my-ordinary-self

8230;about all sorts of stuff. Celebrating my ordinary self. I’ve had an interesting time looking at myself these past few months. While I was unemployed I swam almost every day. The upside was that I felt great; the downside was that I got skin cancer in the middle of my darned face. A few dermatologist visits later, I am the proud owner of a one-inch scar on my cheek, hiding in the crease of my smile. Age never stops, does it? Click to share on Google (Opens in new window). March 18, 2015. I think the ...

What makes us stronger? | Achariya Writes

https://achariya.wordpress.com/2012/11/20/what-makes-us-stronger

8230;about all sorts of stuff. What makes us stronger? My father injured himself. I’ll speak of that more in a moment. As soon as my health was properly examined to make sure my blood count was fit for travel, I headed to the airport and was on the plane. (How I got to him is another story entirely, and I had a lot of help on the journey. Thanks, you guys.). Unlike the current issue facing my family now. He’s also been using an iPad, and quite enjoying the connection it gives him, to good music and...

Prompt 7: Write a fan letter to someone | Achariya Writes

https://achariya.wordpress.com/2015/03/04/prompt-7-write-a-fan-letter-to-someone

8230;about all sorts of stuff. Prompt 7: Write a fan letter to someone. One day, out of the blue, a friend mentioned that she’d just written a letter to Richard Armitage. Slightly later that day, another friend told me that she had a class assignment to write a fan letter to the author Sharon Creech. Both of these fan letters were about how the artists’ works impacted my pals in a deep and heart-felt way. 8221; she wondered. I remember leaving you to catch my flight from Honolulu back to Los Angeles.

Dinosaurs and cyborgs | Achariya Writes

https://achariya.wordpress.com/2013/05/14/dinosaurs-and-cyborgs

8230;about all sorts of stuff. This weekend I saw a lot of beauty. I saw Dinosaur Ridge. Archaeology made real and present. I saw bones, almost the consistency of amber, embeded in rock, from one of the first places on earth where dinosaur bones were discovered. Watching my dad roll his wheelchair with determination around the edge of a cliff was even more beautiful. Being with him helped me think through a lot of prejudices, and see a lot of prejudices. For a little while, whenever I passed a wheelchair...
