Monday, 26 March 2007. A climber who climbs first, placing protective gear into the face of the climb and clipping in the rope. On an outdoor route, a leader needs to know how to secure a belay, and how to thread their rope safely through the top of a sport route. A climber who climbs second after the leader, removing protective gear as it is reached and clipping it to their harness. Meaning the belayer is clipped in and ready for the climber to climb. Things We've Learned: Belaying

Monday, 26 March 2007. When you have taken a bite of rope and put it through your belay plate, make sure the rope that is leading from the climber (live rope) is entering the belay plate on the top, and that the dead rope (the end that doesn't have a climber attached, and just goes straight to the floor) leads to the floor. KEEP ONE HAND TIGHT ON THE DEAD ROPE AT ALL TIMES! This is very important, as if you don't you have the potential for a dead climber. Not cool. Remember to talk to each other!
