Things I Failed to Do

Things I Failed to Do. A blog about projects which I didn't finish, and why that might be interesting in and of itself. A blog about failure. Thursday, 13 February 2014. It also serves well as the first post which any future visitor might see. What happened when I went to public school. Meanwhile this chapter just has *** and death in it. Borking narratives in choice-based games. Finished things that still feel unfinished. Links to this post. Wednesday, 29 August 2012. But yeah, all this started off with...

Things I Failed to Do: Donkey Kong 64

http://thingsifailedtodo.blogspot.com/2012/03/donkey-kong-64.html

Things I Failed to Do. A blog about projects which I didn't finish, and why that might be interesting in and of itself. A blog about failure. Thursday, 15 March 2012. The Donkey Kong Country games were near perfect 2D platformers, and Mario 64 had already demonstrated that a 3D platformer was not only possible, but could be really good. So there is literally no excuse for DK64. It looked bad, it played bad and they killed Wrinkly Kong, then brought her back as a ghost. What? Marzipan 2 Master Post.

Things I Failed to Do. A blog about projects which I didn't finish, and why that might be interesting in and of itself. A blog about failure. Monday, 7 February 2011. So, yeah - I enjoy the automatic Pavlovian kickback I get for finding secrets, but I resent the way this is used to pad out the playing time of a lot of games even as I do so. I don't for one second believe that I am alone in feeling like this. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Marzipan 2 Master Post. View my complete profile.

Things I Failed to Do: Becoming a Tory

http://thingsifailedtodo.blogspot.com/2011/06/becoming-tory.html

Things I Failed to Do. A blog about projects which I didn't finish, and why that might be interesting in and of itself. A blog about failure. Wednesday, 15 June 2011. While my ranting post about Conan. Going to public school for her and for me at that time did not seem to be a political act - how could it? It was a route out of poverty and a chance to be challenged intellectually, and it worked, which is possibly the most terrible thing. What it didn't do, though was turn me into a Tory, and that is ...

Things I Failed to Do. A blog about projects which I didn't finish, and why that might be interesting in and of itself. A blog about failure. Tuesday, 10 May 2011. I was bored, it was my first attempt at making a team of superheroes and I wanted to do it the way Carl Sagan would have wanted. Well, not quite (there's a section in the brilliant collection The Demon-Haunted World. Superheroes of Science Super Team Go! Prefers the dark - because Mathra! Usually has a migraine.) Constant and unyielding, a...

Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom: Madness and Play (unedited excerpt)

http://noteverythingsalldoomandgloom.blogspot.com/2013/04/madness-and-play-unedited-excerpt.html

Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom. Some things are really good. Friday, 5 April 2013. Madness and Play (unedited excerpt). This is an unedited excerpt from the first draft of the second chapter of the book I'm writing. This is an early version of some of the arguments but gives you an idea of both the style of writing I'm initially looking at and the themes I'm investigating. In his history Madness and Civilisation. So where does gaming sit within this history of popular culture? But gaming and games a...

Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom. Some things are really good. Tuesday, 1 January 2013. Any help would be much appreciated. In the meantime, I'm brewing up a post looking at and comparing L.A. Noire and Deadly Premonition, the two detective games I played in 2012. Should be fun, and over analysed as usual. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom: Rule 63 (Elementary)

http://noteverythingsalldoomandgloom.blogspot.com/2012/10/rule-63-elementary.html

Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom. Some things are really good. Wednesday, 17 October 2012. But what's more, I decided I needed to examine why my knee-jerk reaction had been disdain. Was it because Liu was a woman, was Asian-American or had been in the high-camp Charley's Angels trilogy? Reinterpretation is unavoidable. It happens all the time, especially in transfers between mediums, and here's the big, important, secret: it doesn't erase, or de-legitimise the original text. I know! Crazy, isn't it?

Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom: Too Legit not to Quit

Not Everything's All Doom and Gloom. Some things are really good. Friday, 5 April 2013. Too Legit not to Quit. So, what has stayed my blogger's hand recently? My problem is one of legitimacy. As I write and research and make notes every now and then it just hits me - how can I justify even attempting to put this out? But then again, as my mind constantly delights in asking me, how do you justify anything? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Cats in the Sun: Representations of Su...

things i eat in the bathtub

Things i eat in the bathtub. It all started after a run when I was really, really hungry and thirsty. . .and smelly. I decided to eat a grapefruit but took it with me into the bathtub. I thought this was brilliant considering the squirty potential that grapefruit has. A habit was born. Friday, May 24, 2013. So not smooth smoothie. I'm not very coordinated or graceful. This is especially true when I have sweated through my clothing, my hands are shaking and my blood sugar is low. Links to this post. I sho...

Yellow Rose Arbor

I don't want the summer to pass without posting this zinnia tablescape. Inspiration started with this cute little wheelbarrow from Hobby Lobby. I featured it in my Valentine and St. Patrick's Day tablescapes back in February and March. My mother always grew zinnias in her yard. When I saw these silk zinnias I had to buy them because they remind me of my mother. They look so sweet in the little wheelbarrow. The multi-colored flatware also matches really well! Napkin rings have a zinnia tucked in them.

Things I Fancy!

Saturday, August 16, 2008. I have shifted all future posts over to my other blog, Brunch Anytime. Wednesday, June 25, 2008. This Strange Thing Called Prom. There is a great article in the NYT from earlier in the week about how students at "the International High School at Prospect Heights, a public school that serves newcomers to the United States, had no clue what a prom was" and it follows them as they learn the rituals to prom and try to throw one. It's a great, charming story, you can read here.

Thursday, December 1, 2011. I'm not back yet. Has it been a year yet? Jeeze I've been so busy with school that I abandoned this place completely. But I still have such warm feelings for it! While I did abandon the blogging, I did not abandon cooking! But I did cut down on it due to my time being taken up with assignments, projects, and other fun exciting learning experiences. : Don't get me wrong, I'm all about learning, but learning so much in so little time is just stressful.
