After seeing a tutorial on how to make your own stamp, I knew that I would have to try it! So, I spent about 25 bucks on Speedball carving tools and stamps blocks and was ready to begin. 1 Decide what you want to stamp, then draw it in pencil. 2 To transfer the image to the pink stamp block, simply place the image face down on the block and rub the back of the paper with something hard (I think I just used my fingernail, but a credit card or coin would work well too). 4 Clean it up, then stamp it!

Meet Big Red. She's a freshly painted Amana 18 Refrigerator (turned beer fermenter) that we got from a friend moving out of state. Our friend bought the fridge in Seattle for 35 bucks. He tuned it up, then converted it to a fermentation chamber - oh, homebrewers. :) The last thing that my house needed was another refrigerator (we currently have two excluding this one); but my attitude changed once I turned it into an art project! I liked the idea of a chalkboard fridge, but I didn't want the entire.

things that katydid.: March 2011

After a delicious cup of coffee downtown last week, I had the urge to wander into the local art store to have a look around. I wasn't looking for, or expecting to buy anything - I should have known better. Well, I ended up leaving $18 poorer. but with a 10-pack of oven-bake clay in my purse and all sorts of cool ideas starting to consume my thoughts. I can remember my sister and I playing with Fimo clay when we were younger. I'd bruise my own hands trying to shape it just right, then QUICK MOM!

I was happily perusing Ravelry and came across a bunch of rag-rug projects (I'd also seen some cool projects on Pinterest). I was amazed with these rugs. and how easy! You can crochet with old sheets and clothes! Soooo, shortly thereafter I found myself in the sheets section of a nearby thrift store carefully searching for the perfect sheets to transform into "yarn". Cutting the sheets into longs strips was probably the most time consuming part of the whole project (but don't be discouraged!

I came across these adorable baby booties while looking for gift ideas for a friend's baby shower here - http:/ crochetme.com/media/p/95278.aspx. I wanted to make something cozy, cute, and simple. and I found a winner! I modified the pattern a bit because I was having trouble keeping my stitch count the same as the pattern. I used Cascades Yarns' Cotton Fixation and Superwash Wool yarns that I had left over from other projects. I couldn't stop after one pair! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Things That Kept Us Busy - About this project

Things That Kept Us Busy. In December 2006, just before my family and I left for Singapore, my friend Orah and I agreed to send a small art work to one another every month to keep in touch, but more so to keep the art momentum going between us - a dialogue that we had been developing for a while in Orah's kitchen or in my work room. After nearly 7 years, I am back in UK. In Winchester, where we kept our house and also where Orah lives. That sense of security and belonging. Where is home now?
