These Things

Friday, September 26, 2014. I've always loved textiles: fabric, yarn, quilts, weaving, colors, textures. The melody and harmony of quilt designs especially call to and inspire me. Through the years, convinced that I hated sewing, all I could do was gaze and admire. A few years ago I dipped my toes in the sewing sea, working through some Stitch by Stitch. That class series turned out to be one of my best gifts EVER. My teacher. Sharon teased me about over-planning, but I did find out that there were some ...

These Things: March 2013

http://www.thinkaboutthesethings.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 20, 2013. On Monday I led our small co-op in creating this Tiffany style art project. I was efficient enough to gather all the materials, but unfortunately not so with-it that I brought my camera. Thus, there are no pictures of the process or any finished artwork besides Rebecca's. I followed the instructions on Kids and Glitter. We followed the suggested Lenten theme, but this technique can be used to make all sorts of beautiful images. Enjoy! Links to this post. These Things: February 2013

http://www.thinkaboutthesethings.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 27, 2013. The Power of Habit: A Book Rave-view. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business. Is a fantastic book! After hearing just a smidgen of a radio interview with the author, I put myself in the library queue. Charles Duhigg, a journalist, has written about the habits of individuals, organizations, and societies. He explains scientific research about craving, the structure of habits, and how habits can be created or changed. The Power of Habit. Finally, brethre...

These Things: December 2013

http://www.thinkaboutthesethings.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Walking in a Winter Wonderland. Maybe, but it fits the day and recalls a song from the all-time- BEST Christmas album. I joke about our school system's wimpy response to inclement weather, but this truly was not a morning to have buses on the roads. Here's what "no school" looked like today:. In anticipation of the light snow, wintry mix, and freezing rain, I filled the bird feeder yesterday. My coolest (ha ha) sighting today: a strand of spider webbing coated with ice! My fat...

These Things: June 2014

http://www.thinkaboutthesethings.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 27, 2014. It's Been Too Long . . . How do I know? Perhaps the mouse nest in the corner is a clue . . . It appeared to be mostly grass clippings for structure. With fur (from Dusty's outdoor grooming sessions) added for comfort. Note the cherry pits on the left. There was a much bigger pile deep inside the grill. The holes were gnawed in order to get to the tasty kernels. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Saint of the Day. St Francis de Sales. Len's neglected personal blog.

These Things: The Loveliness of Cooking With Kids

http://www.thinkaboutthesethings.blogspot.com/2008/02/cooking-with-kids.html

Monday, February 25, 2008. The Loveliness of Cooking With Kids. Is hosting the Loveliness of One-on-One fair. About spending time with our children, one at a time. I had actually forgotten about the fair, but providentially began this post today. If you want to see what some of our meals look like, you can check some. Lately my posting makes it look like I do a lot of cooking with my kids. Fooled you! We had three meals in November, but didn't really start up again until February. The idea (ideal? But hi...

Come to the Table: March 2012

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Come to the Table. Thursday, March 15, 2012. Throughout my cooking career, I've had limited success with meatballs, trying multiple recipes. Some were tastier than others, and many fell apart while simmering in tomato sauce. Forming and frying or baking meatballs is also time consuming. Then I stumbled on the idea of Italian meatloaf- meatball flavor with the ease of a loaf! The recipe that follows is my take on the Italian meatloaf from. And a recipe for meatballs in Sunday gravy created by. I usually p...

Come to the Table: Coffee Cake Kit

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2012/01/coffee-cake-kit.html

Come to the Table. Thursday, January 26, 2012. I've got several "go to" recipes for Sunday morning treats, but decided to try Carole Walters' recipe. For Butter Crumb Coffee Cake anyway. It's a winner! So here's my version of Carole's recipe (8-10 servings at our house, 10-12 at hers). I increased the nuts in the streusel (fourfold! And changed some of the technique. First, the kits:. Combine in a food processor:. 1 Tbsp baking powder. 1/2 cup (1 stick) soft, unsalted butter. Combine in a food processor:.

Come to the Table: Scones

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2008/07/scones.html

Come to the Table. Wednesday, July 9, 2008. I make really good scones. At least they're popular here at our house! I know two people who make them better than I do (my sister K and her mother-in-law), but they live far enough away to not be any real competition. ;-). Anyway, scones are a lot like biscuits, but richer with butter (vs. shortening), egg, and milk or cream (instead of leaner buttermilk). Mix and roll gently, bake in a hot oven, and enjoy! Here's the basic form of the recipe, adapted from.

Come to the Table: Pumpkin Scones

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2011/05/pumpkin-scones.html

Come to the Table. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. While she was home over Christmas break, Lauren discovered a recipe for pumpkin scones with cinnamon sugar glaze. She made them several times to rave reviews. "The best scones I've ever had! Was a typical reaction. The basic formula is quite similar to my standard scone. Here's what I did:. 1 To one bag of scone mix, add 1 1/2 tsp cake spice (or combine cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger). 1/3 cup canned pumpkin. 1/3 cup (scant) 1/2 &1/2 or milk. I am a Cat...

Come to the Table: July 2010

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Come to the Table. Saturday, July 31, 2010. When my sister-in-law baked this treat for me, I printed out the recipe. After reading numerous online comments and baking it myself, I came up with my own tweaked version. This coffeecake is relatively easy to mix. It's stirred together, muffin-style, rather than using a mixer, creaming the butter, etc. The picture below shows how I cope with my no-cooked-fruit child: I make a jam-free piece, mark it with toothpicks before adding the topping,. On to the recipe.

Come to the Table: Bubbles!

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2011/08/bubbles.html

Come to the Table. Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Have you ever enjoyed bubble tea? It's a fun treat. There are recipes all over the internet, but it's not too hard to improvise, either. Find large tapioca pearls at an Asian grocery store. Cook according to package directions (usually some simmering and soaking). This time I strained the pearls, dropped them into glasses,. And poured on some strawberry lemonade. Easy-peasy, and lots of fun! We've made several variations so far. Lauren likes bubbles in h...

Come to the Table: March 2011

http://cometothetablebarbara.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Come to the Table. Thursday, March 17, 2011. We always eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. My family enjoys it so much I could serve it more often; I usually manage just once or twice more a year. My favorite treatment comes from Mable Hoffman's. The meat is simmered in a crockpot, then brushed several times with a molasses-based glaze as it finishes in the oven. Delicious! Lightly adapted from Mable Hoffman's. 1 (3 1/2 to 4#) corned beef brisket (flat cut is best). 1 1/2 tsp horseradish.

Getting into the swing of things… | Aegean Dreams

Another semester on Paros. Laquo; Wild Paros. Getting into the swing of things…. March 16, 2011 by Lauren. Finally, an update! Water by the bus stop. As the bus took us out of town, up the mountain, and past the thousand year old olive trees, I felt the same excitement I felt last year on our first hike. I couldn’t wait for the new student to see Lefkes! They had no idea! Snow on Naxos; the view from Lefkes. Laying in a field of chamomile. Spanakopita, food of the gods. Yesterday I had printmaking in the...

Think About The Issues

Think About The Issues. DO NOT READ THIS. A HEAVY FINE WILL BE IMPOSED FOR THE READING OF SAID WORDS. Monday, July 4, 2011. How old are you? Let's say you are ∞ years old. Not necessarily though. You think you are ∞ years old. How do you know that though? You are 5 minutes old! Maybe so. All your memories from 5 minutes ago. To the earliest memories could just be a sham! Perhaps they were simulated,. Perhaps you were programmed to think that you are ∞ years old. I might not be real. I certainly think.

Piątek, 9 grudnia 2016. Postanowiłam, że odpuszczę sobie bloga na okres świąteczny. Posty pojawiają się rzadko, a ja sama nie zapisuję ile zjadam kalorii.
