http://blog.drivingsecrets.com/2005/08/so-you-want-to-be-race-car-driver.html
So you want to be a race car driver? Who doesn't watch Jeff Gordon or John Force and say, "Wow, cool, I want to do that! A lot of people probably want to be a race car driver or they currently are driving a race car and want to be a better a race car driver. As a psychologist who has been involved with racing my entire life, I have a few ideas on how to be a better race car driver, but in my first post, I want to start with Commitment! Are you willing to work hard when other people are taking it easy?

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. The winter months are flying by and it will be spring before you know it! This weekend Mike is off picking up the engine from our engine man, "Big Block Shawn! For some people they think of the start of spring when they see birds or flowers, but for most racers we think of the start of spring when we get our new or freshened engines in the cars! Driving Secrets: Practice Like a Winner!
http://blog.drivingsecrets.com/2012/12/practice-like-winner.html
Practice Like a Winner! I work with a lot of athletes in a lot of different sports but one thing becomes really obvious in all of these sports, practice matters! 1) Make every practice count! For bowlers, baseball players, soccer players, and others who get a lot of practice, it is easy to just kind of go through the motions and not practice hard. For drag racers, we get very little practice so every time trial has to be viewed as essential. 3) Make practice hard! 5) Keep records of your practice. Ke...
Driving Secrets: Don't Leave anything on the field!!!
http://blog.drivingsecrets.com/2008/11/dont-leave-anything-on-field.html
Don't Leave anything on the field! OK—two scenarios for you to think about. Scenario number 1 you go into a situation (work, personal, sport, etc.) and you only give about 50% of what you possibly could give and then you fail. How bad do you feel? You know you could have done more and succeeded. Scenario number 2 you go into a situation (work, personal, sport, etc.) and you give 100% of what you can give at that moment and you fail. How bad do you feel? Why are you holding back? What are you waiting for?

Driving Secrets: So what are you doing this pre-season? Think Tuff!
http://blog.drivingsecrets.com/2013/03/so-what-are-you-doing-this-pre-season.html
So what are you doing this pre-season? OK, it is hard to believe that racing season is just around the corner when we just had 10 inches of snow in St. Louis in March. And instead of working on the tow vehicle, Mike was plowing snow around the tow vehicle! Here are some questions to shake the dust (or the snow) off of the brain this preseason:. 1) Think back to last season and the last time you were performing. What were the challenges from last season. What have you done to fix them? And more importantl...

What is Sports Psychology? Tami Eggleston, Ph.D. AASP Certified Performance Enhancement Consultant. USOC Sport Psychology Registry. Think Tuff, Play Tuff. The difference between good performers and great performers is often their mental toughness and their mental game. Certainly an athlete or performer has to practice and be at their physical best, but mental preparation is an often neglected key component to success. The Think Tuff program is valuable for athletes, parents, or coaches. Too many athletes...
