Third Culture Musings: The Christian Role-Player
http://www.thirdculturemusings.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-christian-role-player.html
The pennings of an adult TCK on the Western world, the Church, and that strange thing called life. Thursday, June 4, 2015. Christians and role-playing games have a complicated history. From the early beginnings of table top gaming, Christians have been leery of and quick to denounce such games as evil. Now, don't get me wrong, you have the freedom to make an evil character, but that, as in video games like the Fable, or Elder Scrolls series, is all up to the player. Okay, so, what about the magic? Well, ...

The pennings of an adult TCK on the Western world, the Church, and that strange thing called life. Thursday, August 28, 2014. If you had a simple more personality, you'd get a better tip." - Anon. That was a message scribed beneath one of my receipts today and, frankly, I think it's a load of bull for a couple of reasons. 1 It's not my job. 2 I am an introvert. So, don't be offended if I don't stop and talk. In fact, you might want to ask yourself, "Am I presenting an open, welcoming air? So, I know ther...

The pennings of an adult TCK on the Western world, the Church, and that strange thing called life. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Smalltown U.S.A. So, Google Maps is a wonderful thing. You put in your destination and it tells you how to get there. It even tells you the shortest way to get there. Now, since it was already darkening, I didn't really get to see much of the landscapes aside from shadows of trees, but what was cool, was driving through a couple of small towns. Like, you know that stereotyp...

The pennings of an adult TCK on the Western world, the Church, and that strange thing called life. Third Culture Musings: On Race, Riots, and Response

The pennings of an adult TCK on the Western world, the Church, and that strange thing called life. Tuesday, April 28, 2015. On Race, Riots, and Response. It is with heavy heart that I hear the news of what has happened in Baltimore. My heart breaks for the family of the deceased, but my heart breaks even more for the travesty that has emerged following his funeral. Instead, I'm going to offer my perspective and thoughts. Were I in this position, this image is one I would be loathe to present, especially ...

Comments on and Analyses of the Bible Stemming from the Pontifications of the Author of Third Culture Musings. (or, less eloquently, my devotional notes). Saturday, March 26, 2016. Carrying off of the end of the last passage, that where sin increased, grace abounded more, Paul rebuts the question hanging in the air: "Shall we continue to sin so that grace may abound? Let me rephrase that: In accepting Christ, you take part in the death of God's Son. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to mak...

Comments on and Analyses of the Bible Stemming from the Pontifications of the Author of Third Culture Musings. (or, less eloquently, my devotional notes). Friday, February 26, 2016. Continuing from Paul's final statement in chapter 1, (Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.). Paul gives no excuse to those who judge. Do they, read this, presume upon God's forgiveness and mercy? God's ki...

Comments on and Analyses of the Bible Stemming from the Pontifications of the Author of Third Culture Musings. (or, less eloquently, my devotional notes). Tuesday, March 15, 2016. So, Paul begins at the tail end of yesterday: because we have been justified by our faith, we have peace with God and have access into his grace. Having access to his grace, we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (vv 1-2). Here comes one of Paul's trickier, loaded statements: we rejoice in our sufferings. Saved [from death, pe...

Comments on and Analyses of the Bible Stemming from the Pontifications of the Author of Third Culture Musings. (or, less eloquently, my devotional notes). Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Paul follows from yesterday with a statement that there is still some benefit to having been a Jew or having been circumcised. (Remember, Paul was laying into the hypocrisy of those who had the law and were physically circumcised, but were living contrary to the law, stating how they were, in essence, uncircumcised). But if thro...

Saturday, January 9, 2016. 9 January 2016 Love Dare Day 36. Reading and Memorising Scripture. I know, this verse has popped up many times in this study. Looking at this a second time, after asking God to show me what it is that he wanted me to see in particular, he took me to the very end of verse 19: "You are not your own.". Stands out as well. All right. In this passage, Paul is making three distinct points. Sin, and death, the punishment of sin, came into the world through Adam and has permeated mankind, even when the Law was not yet given. (vv 12-14). F]or sin indeed was in the world before the law was given. John Wesley's Explanatory Notes.

Just another WordPress.com site. What’s This All About Anyway? I arrived in Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in the middle of June 1989 and was greeted by aunts, uncles and cousins who had driven from Indiana to pick us up and take us to a little motel in somewhere Midwest US.
