Flexible Seating - The REAL Scoop! - Third Grade Doodles
http://www.thirdgradedoodles.com/2016/11/flexible-seating-real-scoop.html
Flexible Seating - The REAL Scoop! Saturday, November 12, 2016. I took the leap and implemented flexible seating in my classroom this year! Here are the things that I LOVE and the things I DON'T LOVE about it. Students have the opportunity to make decisions about where they sit. This helps them learn about making good choices, being responsible, and taking charge of their own learning. I love that students can MOVE! I can't tell you how this has simplified things! No more late nights trying to work out t...

http://www.thirdgradedoodles.com/2013/09/peek-into-my-classroom.html
Peek Into My Classroom. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. When it comes to classrooms, I can be quite a voyeur. I love to see how other teachers set up their classrooms.it just fascinates me! Sometimes when I'm at school on a Saturday, I will sneak into other classrooms, just to have a peek (shhhhh). It is so great that so many teachers blog about their classrooms and post pictures on Instagram. My iphone 4 takes some pretty awful photographs, but here are some photos I snapped of my corner of the world.

Lipstick, Lattes, and Lesson Plans: Welcoming a class of writers (and getting that first writing sample)
http://lipsticklattesandlessonplans.blogspot.com/2013/08/welcoming-class-of-writers-and-getting.html
Sunday, August 18, 2013. Welcoming a class of writers (and getting that first writing sample). Earlier this week, as I began to prep for our first day of school this Wednesday, I couldn't help but think about how I should get that first writing sample of the year. I pulled out my "back to school" folder and sifted through all my ideas from years past but couldn't commit to anything. Then, I found myself asking, "how do I want to welcome my kiddos to my class this year? The front of mine will be a kind of...

Lipstick, Lattes, and Lesson Plans: December 2012
http://lipsticklattesandlessonplans.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 26, 2012. The Elf on the Shelf in the classroom pt. 2. As the holidays approached in room 211, Jingles' mischeif continued. The first week was of course a little rough, being that Jingles lost his magic when one of my little boys touched him. Following directions is an important life skill, friends. We got back on track after using the Elf Magic Recovery Dust that Santa sent through overnight express mail to our classroom. So my kids searched and searched. My kiddos are too sweet....

Learning in Bliss: January 2015
http://learninginbliss.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 26, 2015. Semester's end and honoring students. What message should I send my students this year? I could give awards in my classroom separate from the assembly. The other parents would never see them beam as they are recognized for their achievements in behavior, or character, or whatever I deem appropriate. Will that token award be enough to erase the idea of failure from their mind, as I try to get them ready for high stakes testing? Should they all get something? This year we are fina...

http://lipsticklattesandlessonplans.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 22, 2013. Thinking ahead to year 2 with Guided Math/Math Workshop. I have been so happy using Guided Math in my classroom this year. I think it has been really beneficial to my littles and I have been really pleased with the amount of time I've been able to spend working with small groups and differentiating. When I think ahead to next year, I know there are a few minor adjustments I want to make, though. Currently, these are my stations:. M - Math fact practice. A - At your seat journals.

Third Grade Curriculum
Thursday, March 26, 2015. We are embarking on the tail end of our 9th year of homeschooling. Does that make me an expert? Not even remotely. I am still learning something new all the time. I’m constantly learning what my boys like and don’t like, as far as materials and resources go. And believe it or not, I’m still learning how to pick programs that work well with their learning styles. That would engage and interest my visual-spatial learner. S Did I succeed? Posted by Miss Suzy. But that doesn’t...

Saturday, August 15, 2015. Getting Organized for Writer's Workshop. I am taking a break from math workshop this week to write about how I organize for Writer's Workshop! The system I have developed over the years is not perfect, but it has helped A LOT in keeping the paper shuffle to a minimum and allowed for more "pencil to paper time". THE YELLOW DRAFTING PAD. The drafting notebook is the most important component of our writer's workshop. This is where I place all of the lesson and strategy work th...

Third Grade, St. BernardsThief River Falls, MN - Blog
Tell me, I forget Show me, I remember Involve me, I understand. Third Grade, St. Bernards. Thief River Falls, MN. Our class science fair project was: Which plate will hold the most weight before sinking: paper plate, plastic plate, or styrofoam plate? As a class, we conducted three different trials of each plate, found the average for each plate, then recorded our data. The styrofoam plate held the most weight with 255 grams, which is what we predicted in our hypothesis! The students learned a lot about ...

Why I Give the Comprehension Test First, Instead of Last. They used their books. They had to. They had no memory of the story to rely on.
