This Crafting Life

Tuesday, 21 April 2015. Lately I have been thinking it was about time I reclaimed my neglected blog. Especially after a good friend recently left a (pointed? Comment on my last post, which admittedly was written just over a year ago. At first I thought I would disassemble the linens and combine individual motifs with the reclaimed picture frame glass I like to use for my glass work. But while the samples I made were pretty things in themselves they still didn't feel quite right. Tuesday, 1 April 2014.

Thursday, 16 January 2014. There's something at the bottom of the garden. Now we have this. Something is definitely happening at the end of the mudslide that used to be our garden. I'm just beginning to allow myself to get excited about it. Just a little bit. Tuesday, 7 January 2014. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Helen Smith, Artist, Maker. Promote your Page too. Helen Smith : Artist, Maker: Gardening

http://thiscraftinglife.blogspot.com/2013/09/gardening.html

Tuesday, 3 September 2013. Did you see this? Today we have this. There is still more to do, the buddleia on the right needs to come out along with various other shrubs, and beyond that there is an apple tree that needs a serious haircut once we've picked the apples (a bumper crop again this year! Behind me is a pile of hedge trimmings that need to be carted to the tip, but believe me, it is less than a quarter the size of the pile that was. Maybe, just maybe, there will be space for a shed.

Tuesday, 1 April 2014. A room of my own, at last. Looking back at my last post. It has been quite a while. And it was quite sunny then, looking at the beginnings of the base for my new studio. Of course it didn't stay sunny, most of the country had appalling weather and although ours wasn't as bad as some, the construction of the studio did take rather longer than expected. Finished now (bar a few extra coats of paint) and I am beginning to settle in. My desk in front of the window, printing press,.

The wood underneath had burnt away and the shavings were reduced to a fine crumbly ash, as had much of the seaweed. I had expected it to burn away completely but it was still there. Sorry about the picture quality - the camera objected to taking photos of dark things at dusk). 1 collection of smokefired beads and buttons.

Whether it is spring, the gentle discipline of 101 in 1001 or the sudden realisation that if I don't get a move on, we're never going to move house, all sorts of things have started to come together. But with 101/1001 I realised I wanted something big enough to write in and to stick things in. Links to this post.

Thursday, April 21, 2011. Five Conversations You MUST Have With Your Daughter. I just finished reading a wonderful book about moms and daughters! What this book doesn't say is that there is one. Way and it's the only right. Way to raise your daughter and it's in her. Book It doesn't say that if you do "a b c" that you will always end up with "d." It doesn't come across preachy or condescending. And that it's easy to be "easy" but hard to be virtuous (but there are still kids who are doing this! Do I take...
