In 16 lectures, these kids go from Coping with the Pleistocene-Holocene transition to the 15th century AD. And then I have to condense this into 8 hour-long tutorials and accompanying essays and reading lists. Human colonization of the world/environmental and cultural factors that shaped it (lectures 1 and 2).

Notes From the Ivory Tower. Defending Academia From All The Unwashed Masses; Or, A Gentleman and a Drunkard. Sunday, April 25, 2010. More Sunday Night Musings. Another Sunday night, another Writing Center shift. Got my last hour open, so may as well waste a little time here. Given that my dissertation chapter is currently in the hands of my advisor, and I just can't muster up the will to go back and revise anything else yet, I've kind of been coasting since then. I work in the WC four days a week now...

Just finished Evelyn Waugh's. Trilogy. Loads of fun, though I liked. More But the version I have features an intro by Frank Kermode, with perhaps one of the best statements ever:. Meanwhile he [Waugh] grew more and more pugnacious and unreasonable in his dislikes and in his desire for vengeance on his enemies.". I offer this gem.
