Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Saturday, August 15, 2015. After laying up the fiberglass structure on my test panel, the next thing was to come up with options for the finish. The goal of this test was to come up with a nonskid treatment that utilized gel coat and not paint (most non-skid renewal options are paint-based) and be something that can be done relatively easily given my construction methods and limited resources. This Rat Sailed: Fiberglassing in the Dark

http://www.thisratsailed.blogspot.com/2015/08/fiberglassing-in-dark.html

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Fiberglassing in the Dark. It is kind of funny. It seems most projects that my wife and I start, at some point along the way, result in performing work late at night in the dark. Be it planting trees in our old backyard, re-tiling our old bathroom, or a myriad of other projects, we end up misjudging the amount of time needed. And now we can add fiberglass layup to the list. Two more layers of resin and cl...

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Monday, September 1, 2014. Keeping Bugs at Bay. I seem to be apologizing a lot lately for the lack of posts. When I haven't been sick, I've been busy, but it hasn't been much that is sailing related. We've been working hard on our downsizing, but it is amazing how much stuff you can collect being in one home for almost 18 years. I should have more updates in the coming weeks, so please stand by. Meanwhile, I was reading a blog post.

This Rat Sailed: Renaming Our Leopard

http://www.thisratsailed.blogspot.com/2014/03/renaming-our-leopard.html

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Wednesday, March 5, 2014. I'm still catching up on the posts.but at least heading in the right direction now. While my wife and I were both together on the boat, it seemed like the best time to perform the renaming ceremony. For anyone that isn't familiar with all the superstition surrounding sailing vessels and the high seas, there is a lot. Here is a write-up on the ceremony we used:. Our first attempt at the ceremony was postpone...

This Rat Sailed: Annapolis Sailboat Show, the Traditional Sailboats

http://www.thisratsailed.blogspot.com/2012/10/annapolis-sailboat-show-traditional.html

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Annapolis Sailboat Show, the Traditional Sailboats. Line, we looked at the Oceanis. Series 37 and 41. The 41 was similar, but instead of a single berth there were two berths aft and a little larger salon. Both boats were well appointed with a lot more wood accents than I recall seeing on the cats. We also saw a couple Hunters. And an Island Packet 370. Given Hunter's reputation, we didn't really spend a ...

This Rat Sailed: Grades, Practice, and Oops.

http://www.thisratsailed.blogspot.com/2012/09/grades-practice-and-oops.html

Leaving the rat race for a life aboard a sailboat. The Boat (s/v Rover). Monday, September 24, 2012. Grades, Practice, and Oops. We heard back from the sailing school. I got a 100 and a 95 on the first two tests and my wife got 99 and 91. Since anything over 80 was passing, I'd say we did rather well. So we could enjoy our sandwiches for lunch. It was good to get out and sail again. Overall, other than the unanticipated swim, it was a good day. So, I guess now it is back to studying for our next class.

LEAVING CLEVELAND, OHIO FOR BUFFALO, NY. 12 June, 2014. After spending a few days moving our stuff onboard for the delivery and getting a little familiar with the boat systems, we left the marina in Cleveland about 0800 before things got busy at the marina. Other than the 'house fly war', our 22-hour, 155 mile trip across Lake Erie. Posted by Knot Tide Down.

Thursday, October 7, 2010. I was at my sweet cousin's house in Northern Michigan last night, and taped to the windowsill above the kitchen sink was a note that read:. The days are long. The years are short. She is a wonderful mom to five beautiful children and after I read that I thought, what a great reminder to enjoy every moment and use every moment for the glory of God! Lord, redeem the time! There is always enough time, to do the will of God. For that we can never say, 'I don't have time.'". D redee...
