Salsa Verde | Thistle Cookery
https://thistlecookery.wordpress.com/2015/06/21/salsa-verde
Learning to Cook One Recipe at a Time. June 21, 2015. I made a fabulous salsa verde a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t take notes at the time and now I can’t find the recipe. If I’ve learned one thing about Mexican cooking, it’s that any recipe will be good if you use the proper combination of ingredients. 1 medium onion, thickly sliced. 2 jalapenos, stemmed. Water or broth, to thin salsa. This entry was posted in Mexican Recipes. Guide to Dried Chilis. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Jill's Art J...

Plantains | Thistle Cookery
https://thistlecookery.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/plantains
Learning to Cook One Recipe at a Time. June 6, 2015. Bananas are my favorite fruit, so I hoped that I would really enjoy plantains. I know I need to experiment more before issuing a final comment, but my initial thought is: eh.Shinay Dine Geffrar. I know as much as to pick non-green fruit. I chose fruit that were yellow with lots of black blotches. I’ve since read that it should be completely black, so that might be part of my problem. This entry was posted in Mexican Recipes. Black Beans and Greens.
Black Beans and Greens | Thistle Cookery
https://thistlecookery.wordpress.com/2015/05/31/black-beans-and-greens
Learning to Cook One Recipe at a Time. Black Beans and Greens. May 31, 2015. A simple combination of beans and greens that is kind of hard to mess up. Warning: If you expect leftover beans, do not add the greens (specifically spinach) to the full pot. They will desentegrate into a rather unappealing texture. Instead, add greens to individual servings. 1 bag black beans. 1 large white onion, chopped. 3 cloves garlic, minced. 1 T vegetable oil. 2-3 chipotles, canned in adobo, chopped. 1 Soak beans overnight.
Guide to Dried Chilis | Thistle Cookery

Learning to Cook One Recipe at a Time. Guide to Dried Chilis. June 7, 2015. I like hot and spicy food, but I don’t know a thing about using the proper chili for the job. I plan to experiment with dried chilis in the near future, so I’m collecting resources for the occasion. I found Dried Chilis. From Cooks.com which does a nice job describing chilis and suggesting substitutes as needed. I’ll come back and add more resources to this post as I find them. 12 Essential Chili Peppers for Mexican Cooking.

Pottery: First Firing – SketchBook

The Project Formerly Known as 365. Six weeks in, and I’m finally able to see some results of my “comeback”. As I expected, the results are….OK. The forms are fine for the most part, but they are too heavy for my liking. My instructor tried to convince me that heavy is good (so they won’t fall over and break easily), but I think he was just being kindly patronizing. 1 Jar 4″x4″. Base coat of Turkish Amber. Thistle and Ivy Photography. My Camera Settings – Part 1. May 30, 2015. June 2, 2015. This post is for my own benefit. I need to continually note terms and settings until they sink in. One day I hope to purchase proper editing software, but for the time being the Nikon software and free online software (such as GIMP and Pixlr) are all I need to learn the basics. Top right: Manual setting, contrast enhanced. Bottom right: Automatic setting, white balance enhanced. Top: Manual setting. Aperture = f/5&#...

Kites 3 Peaks Challenge
Walking around the Isle of Wight. 69 miles of walking. In 24 hours (or until we finish! Our aim is to walk around the Isle of Wight in a single walk. Last year we did the 3 Peaks, this year we wanted a challenge! Why are we doing it? Well, we all have personal reasons for doing it - and they have nothing to do with having a mid-life crisis - but what unites us is a desire to challenge ourselves and to raise some money for our two chosen charities. We also think its going to be fun - no we really do!
