Posts Tagged ‘firewood’. Old Man Winter settles in. Posted in Winter weather. On January 16, 2016 1 Comment. The little EPA certified soapstone stove doesn’t need a lot of wood to keep this little place warm, so I can get by with scrounging as the weeks go by, but it would be nice to have a couple of cords laid in and not have to worry with it. What’s more important than a full woodshed? Read Full Post ». The season of uneasiness. Posted in Changing seasons. On October 23, 2013 7 Comments. Meanwhile, the...

The season of uneasiness | Thistledog's Farm

http://thistledog.com/2013/10/23/the-season-of-uneasiness

Laquo; Spring into Summer, Fall close behind. The season of uneasiness. October 23, 2013 by thistledog. That title phrase is borrowed from a recent Gene Logsdon blog post. In which he talks about bringing in firewood for the winter ahead, and how the onset of winter makes some of us uneasy, whether we know why or not. I know why the coming months of dormant grass, saturated soils, and frigid temperatures make me uneasy. Because I’m not ready for it, that’s why. Barn doors need built and hung to finish th...

Archive for the ‘Changing seasons’ Category. Posted in Changing seasons. On March 16, 2016 1 Comment. Well that was fast. Plenty of rain and several weeks of May-like temps have turned the switch on early, it seems. We’re told to expect some cold nights and snow flurries before March is behind us but there’s really no stopping what’s going on out there in the woods and fields, ponds and streams, soil and sky. It’s all awake now. Ready, set, go! Read Full Post ». Eastern Standard Cow Time. I guess if I&#8...

Posts Tagged ‘feeding hay’. From grazing to feeding. On November 26, 2013 4 Comments. A very short three weeks ago my little herd of Devon cattle was grazing the last of the sweet fall regrowth in the West Pasture, heading down range toward the Lower Pasture where the winter feeding rotation has now begun. Enjoying the Creative High Life! Tag Archives: water damage. January 26, 2013. Projects keep us out of the bars. So there was this project that I had been putting off for the longest time. In part the financial bits and pieces weren’t in place and sourcing all the things I needed to complete this one took some time and research, but the time had finally come……. Condensation is never kind to paint, not even ugly red paint. And did I mention that this is just an ugly color of paint? The worst of the damage.

So all the blogs said it would be awful, all the boards for trades people said “hire a professional,” but just a few people said it was possible and they had done it. So I took a chance, knowing that my “fix-it” skills were pretty decent, and while I procrastinated for at least two weeks trying to learn more, eventually it was just time to do it! Caerwyn Farm and Spirits: Catch up picture post.

http://caerwynfarmandspirits.blogspot.com/2015/03/catch-up-picture-post.html

Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Catch up picture post. Here are some of the things we have done since I last wrote in this blog. From most recent to least recent they are. We went to Kona this spring and got a chance to see coffee grow. Jess is still amazing. We continue to have our fall festivals every year and raise money for the food shelf. I went hunting for elk in Wyoming. The views were amazing. It was a great trip. I backed out of this spot 15 seconds before that branch came down right where I was.

But you will have noticed that I have not posted in some time. That was due to our annual deer hunting trip to north western Minnesota. Scroll down for dead deer picture. Congrats on getting the deer! Since Im hunting in the metro area, Ive still got a few days to try to get one. Heres hoping. November 15, 2011 at 8:57 PM. The Garden's ...

Caerwyn Farm and Spirits: Spring is sprung

http://caerwynfarmandspirits.blogspot.com/2015/03/spring-is-sprung.html

Sunday, March 15, 2015. Well Spring is the season of new growth. I don't exactly know what the new restart of the blog might entail but I hope to get the blog started back up again. 160;    We have some big plans for the farm this year. We plan to try raising pigs for the first time which is very exciting. So far I have cleaned out half the bunker and filled it with straw. I have also arranged a heat lamp and made a feed trough for our future piglets. So lots of plans. Hopefully more to come soon! Garden...

Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Yesterday our heat lamp fell into our brooder and burned through the bedding, the plastic and the rolling dolly I had the brooder set on. Monday, December 30, 2013.
