Author Craft via Big Books: Reflection #1

http://www.thiswritersnotebook.blogspot.com/2010/10/reflection-1.html

Author Craft via Big Books. How do authors make their texts memorable? Saturday, October 30, 2010. We have now written five books attempting to use specific author craft. Most of the craft has been structure although we have touched upon word choice here and there. This week there were two half days due to conferences so we did not feature a big book. This seems to be a good time for me to reflect…. Would some students use the author craft to help structure their stories. Would the students imitate i...

Author Craft via Big Books. How do authors make their texts memorable? Saturday, December 4, 2010. Author Craft via Big Books Reflection 2. As I process this final piece, yet another creation by my class awaits publication. This time we studied Gail Gibbon’s non-fiction big book titled, The Milk Makers. Second, we had to make applesauce to experience. The process so we could write about it in a how to. Here is a list of positives and negatives I have been collecting along the way. I plan to continue ...

My Electronic Notebook: April 2011

http://myeclectronicnotebook.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 13, 2011. On Saturday…nine teachers (including me) from my school journeyed across our state and into neighboring New Hampshire to spend the morning and afternoon with Lester Laminack. We did so because a friend from another district told me he is one of the best speakers she has ever heard (and she has heard many). When I conveyed that information to my teaching friends, we took the long drive of faith. With a simple question, “When did hand raising begin? Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Sheddi...

Tuesday, September 28, 2010. I Love What I Do, Do You? Somehow, this year, this class is simpatico right out of the gate. Maybe it is because we have a student teacher making the ratio smaller. Perhaps the personalities just match up better. I don’t have an answer, but I sure love going to school every morning! Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Full, Half Full, or Empty? When my plate is half full…I maintain a rhythm but it is apt to skip a beat now and then. I might forget something, misplace an it...When my...

Thursday, March 31, 2011. My Slicing Friend, Donna. I am telling you about Donna, because just before the March SOLC began, I sent out an email to all the teachers and ed-techs in our building informing them about. The Two Writing Teachers. Blog and the Slice of Life Challenge. I invited everyone to join me and write for the month. Donna is the only person who accepted my invite. March 31, 2011 at 3:21 AM. http://myeclectronicnotebook.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-little-document-camera.html

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. My Little Document Camera. The only thing left to do was try it out with my classroom kids. Once we got through having to put everyone’s face up on the big screen, we got down to business. Students shared patterns, tens and ones work, books and pieces of writing. Since that first day, we have used the document camera each day for a variety of purposes. March 30, 2011 at 8:36 AM. Any tips on that? Http:/ peninkpaper.blogspot.com/. March 30, 2011 at 4:09 PM. My Electronic Notebook: August 2010

http://myeclectronicnotebook.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. It was a warm sunny day. My husband and I went off to look for monarch caterpillars for my classroom. We drove to a spot that had provided for us before. The patch of milkweed by the sea was holding a bumper crop this year. We found five caterpillars in less than five minutes. A runaway shopping cart…my mind immediately went to my writer’s notebook sitting on my end table in our living room. I needed to jot that thought down…a story for my kids. Tuesday, August 17, 2010.

http://myeclectronicnotebook.blogspot.com/2011/03/running-is-more-than-challenge.html

Monday, March 28, 2011. Running is a More than a Challenge. Our school has a spring running club for the students K-5. Last week I volunteered to help our phys-ed teacher with the club two days per week. I thought it would motivate me to graduate from my Wii to real running. So…this morning at 35 degrees with the wind blowing 20 mph I dawned my outdoor gear and started an. March 28, 2011 at 10:35 AM. I wonder if some of them are feeling the same way? It's been HOT here in Dacusville. Still, we BBQ'ed and it was delicious. Now that the "free" time is over with, I guess I'm going back to work. As soon as I can, I'll update on the particular projects I'm working on. I think (or I hope, at least) everyone will be pleased when it comes out. Links to this post.

This writer's tale

Follows the professional - and occasionally unprofessional - life of an English novelist living in London. Sunday, May 3, 2015. My only student breaks out. About eighteen months ago I was asked to participate in one of City University’s creative writing (MA) courses. Who was writing a policier. Set in the former East Germany. This was the setting for my novel The Valley of Unknowing. As well as being where my wife Uta grew up. For world English rights. His first novel, Stasi Child. As the most occasional...
