19 September 1862 – Dear Nellie
https://thomasbaileyblog.wordpress.com/1862-2/19-september-1862
September 19, 1862. Since I last wrote, we have marched from Camp Kearney to this place — a distance of six miles. We were about one mile to the east of Washington and now we are five southwest of the city on the road to Bull Run. We came here Wednesday. We were marched back through the city and across long bridge over the Potomac into Virginia. I shall expect to get a letter from you tomorrow. I don’t know how soon we may leave this place but you can direct your letters to Washington and they ...Give my...
Battle of Fredericksburg – Dear Nellie
https://thomasbaileyblog.wordpress.com/1862-2/battle-of-fredericksburg
For the men of the 21st Connecticut, most of whom had never been in battle previously, the sights and sounds staggered their senses and many who had imagined themselves brave soldiers found themselves cowering before the enemy. Col Arthur Henry Dutton, commander of the 21st Connecticut, unmercifully published the following newspaper article to shame the following members of the 21st who did not remain with their comrades:. Head Quarters, 21st Regiment. Opposite Fredericksburg, Va. December 26, 1862.

31 March 1863 – Dear Nellie
https://thomasbaileyblog.wordpress.com/1863-2/31-march-1863
My dear little Nellie,. I received your letter with the pictures enclosed last evening. I was very much pleased with them and think the one on the card is first rate. I have showed it to Thomas Newbury and all the other boys that are acquainted with you. They all pronounce it good. I think you look full as well as you did last fall. Our regiment was to have moved into a rough fort or earthwork about a mile from here this morning but it rained so we did not go but I think we shall start tomorrow morning.

Are you going down to Boston this spring and make Emma Streeter a visit? If you do, be sure and get me one of her pictures. The Civil W...
