Thoroughman Lab

Our laboratory studies the computational basis of human motor performance. Characterizing motor learning processes in healthy human adults will identify the specific signals used to plan movements and build motor predictions, which will in turn predict the neuronal activities required for motor learning. Comparing these predictions to physiological recordings from non-human primates will indicate the brain areas that likely underlie these computations. Department of Biomedical Engineering.

The Laboratory of Neural Computation and Motor Control is recruiting volunteers for motor control experiments. Volunteers will be asked to make repeated reaching arm movements in front of a computer display. Volunteers will be compensated $10 per hour. Experiments generally consist of 1-2 hour long sessions on one or more consecutive days. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us by emailing motorcontrol@seas.wustl.edu. Curious Neuroscientist: September 2013

http://rezashadmehr.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Essays on people, brains, and mathematics. Saturday, September 21, 2013. A life without memories. The day before, with my two graduate students Kurt Thoroughman. He had no awareness that he had seen me before, or that he had played with this robotic arm only hours earlier. Yet, that experience had left two kinds of memories in his brain: the memory of how to use the tool, and the memory that associated the sight of the tool, and the act of moving it, with a rewarding outcome. Birthday, he recognized his ...
