Dr. Castrato: November 2008
http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Friday, November 21, 2008. The other day I was thinking about people I've known in the past but am not really close with anymore (Facebook has a way of bringing back the undead), and I got kind of weirded out. I remember things that people have told me, but this thought popped into my head: I don't remember anything I've ever said to anyone. What kinds of things do I talk about? What first-hand knowledge of myself have I given to people over the years? Or is it just me? And I h...

Dr. Castrato: Blog Fade
http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2010/03/blog-fade.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Thursday, March 18, 2010. My interaction with this blog has faded significantly over the past year or so. But here is a quick update of some music I found recently:. 1 Field Music - "Measure" This is a long 20 song album of really nicely crafted well recorded songs. So well done, in fact, that it does not feel like 72 minutes. Thats all for now! Posted by Dr. Castrato. I care not for your personal interests. I expect a best-of-2010 list in due course. Or else. KEMMAN - my band.

Violent Action Ensues: November 2005
http://blogspite.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 30, 2005. And I can't hold out forever / even walls fall down. This title took a little while to come up with; little did I realize how many wall-related songs I've foolishly squandered. So yeah, uh, walls. Pretty awesome. I could use a few more, but that's not really the point right now. The point is to talk about what I hang on my walls. Not much at the moment, because I'm bad about remembering to decorate, but I've been kicking around a few ideas:. 1) maps. so many maps. Come to th...

Dr. Castrato: December 2008
http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Monday, December 15, 2008. So, a reader of this blog (probably the only one) has asked if/when I'll be delivering a list of my favorite albums from 2008, as I have done in years past. The answer is Yes. Although it might not happen until after Christmas. There are several albums from 2008 that I never got around to purchasing (or even illegally downloading - sometimes I'm too lazy even for that! So I've put 'em on my Christmas list. Posted by Dr. Castrato. Betty Rocker and Baby.

Dr. Castrato: My Favorite Albums of 2009
http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2009/12/my-favorite-albums-of-2009.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Tuesday, December 29, 2009. My Favorite Albums of 2009. Haven't gotten sick of "1901" despite the car commercials. I may almost like. Probably my least favorite Mastodon record, but it's still an awesome powerhouse of a record and better than most metal I'm hearing these days. 4 Yo La Tengo. YLT is consistently churning out great albums. Less exciting than his previous solo album, but still full of cool. 6 The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. No More Stories Are Told Today. Your o...

Dr. Castrato: October 2008
http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Wednesday, October 29, 2008. So, uh, congrats to the Phillies for winning the World Series. Their "long wait" is "finally" over. It's been SOOOOO long since the freaking Phillies won the Championship. 28 looong years. As a Cubs fan, I spit on the "long wait" rhetoric. But I am glad to see the National League win. And although I liked the Rays, nobody likes a magical year where the worst team in the sport turns it around and wins it all. Nobody! Posted by Dr. Castrato.

http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2009/12/best-of-2009-mix-cd.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Monday, December 28, 2009. Best of 2009 Mix CD. Here is my year-end 2009 mix (CD edit). I left off a couple of longer songs to fit in a few more shorter ones and keep a better flow. I have a longer version in my iTunes of about 65 songs of stuff that didn't make the cut for the CD. 1 Phoenix - Lisztomania. 2 Wilco - You Never Know. 3 Sloan - Take It Upon Yourself. 4 AC Newman - The Changeling (Get Guilty). 5 St Vincent - The Strangers. 6 The Hours - Big Black Hole.

Dr. Castrato: April 2009
http://drcastrato.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Music, Sports and Leisure. Thursday, April 23, 2009. Several things to mention briefly:. 1 I recently saw the band Dr. Dog perform at the Double Door here in Chicago and I was VERY impressed. Really great live show - Lots of energy, great songs, vocal harmonies and dual guitar solos. They are coming back to play the Taste of Randolph festival and I will have to attend. I'll be back soon though. Ha, just kidding, Pat. As long as I don't have to pick you up from the airport or anything. Aw, crap...5 Nex...
