Adrian Melrose on Trusting the Internet
Adrian Melrose
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/adrian-melrose
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. I was born South African and grew up there moving to the UK around the millenium. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte and had a solid training in the Owner Managed Business Division there. I was destined to be an entrepreneur. I have run my own businesses for the last 20 years. My real interest is in the Internet. How it continues to disrupt our world. I work hands-on building a startup called Inn Style. Although I do not have an official appointment a...
And now, Ghost!
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/and-now-ghost
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. And now, Ghost! I have many other places. Where I write far too infrequently but for me, being an early adopter, I am more inclined to kick the tyres early than anything else. That is not to say I don't want to write more. Is clean and new and has loads of potential; especially because it unclutters the writing space. I have accepted that writing in Markdown. Is here to stay having used it extensively with a tool called iAWriter. Which has helped my writing flow.
The Travel Industry still depends on the fax machine?
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/the-travel-industry-still-depends-on-the-fax-machine
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. The Travel Industry still depends on the fax machine? Booking a hotel room online using your smartphone isn't as simple and pleasurable as it should be. Hotel Tonight. Is making a difference but it can't be an easy job: I'll tell you why. It doesn't matter if you're booking through one of the Online Travel Agents (OTAs) (like Booking.com. Or directly with an upmarket hotel: seldom do you see an online booking system that's built for the smart phone. When I first downl...
Online ticketing needs some disruption
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/online-ticketing-needs-some-disruption
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. Online ticketing needs some disruption. Price, Price and Price. I am the Treasurer of various organisations that raise money from events (most of them for charity). I always try and convince my committees to offer online booking but they inevitably balk at the transaction fees. The two established players in the market are: Eventbrite. But I do concede, the fees are quite chunky if you look at them like this:. Passed onto the punter, look at how hefty they turn out:.
Being Early
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/why-early-lab
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. I am an optimistic early adopter, usually first to give something new a whirl. Although, shamefully, I am still to give Snapchat. A testdrive. (Guess that makes me middle-aged, no? Since exiting a startup to Dow Jones Reuters in 2004, I've been experimenting with all kinds of things. None has made the big lights, (yet). Plenty of lessons learnt though, valuable (and expensive) ones. But if I analyse my frustrations, the common denominator is often EARLY. Where we just...
Pay attention to your Fine-Print: it's worth it.
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/pay-attention-to-your-fine-print
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. Pay attention to your Fine-Print: it's worth it. Tech Bootstraps don't typically pay much attention or resource to the fine-print: their Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Most startups end up "borrowing" Ts and Cs for launch. Hopefully, when their businesses gain traction, they'll look at them seriously. Who use our hosted software as a service to run their establishments and take bookings, and. So we engaged Mishcon de Reya. We've just launched Suffolk Places.
Trust the Internet.
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/trust-the-internet
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. Welcome to the Internet where the Middleman wakes up to discover he's lost his job. Made redundant by the web that now performs it quicker, easier, better and cheaper, he looks back on those heady days when all he had to do was connect the buyer and the seller. Many markets still look to the the Internet for disruption. None so obvious than the Travel Industry. The irony is the Internet is to blame for creating a new fat cat middleman. So we built Inn Style. Our sales...
Hello Schools, Heard of The Internet?
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/hello-schools-heard-of-the-internet
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. Hello Schools, Heard of The Internet? Teamwork is an important skill our children need to learn from a young age. For centuries, our schools have grasped this.sadly offline only, that is. The internet has empowered all of us to collaborate in ways we hardly imagined a decade ago, yet using digital tools to bring new efficiencies to teamwork is a concept being neglected by our schools. This priority is lost in the dust kicked up by the "Coding in Schools". Are children...
4 Reasons I ditched my iPhone for Android
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/4-reasons-i-jumped-from-iphone-to-android
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. 4 Reasons I ditched my iPhone for Android. 1 The luxury of time. I've tried the Google Pact before and became easily irritated by the more complex Android interface so went running back to my comfy old iPhone. This time I was on holiday in Australia for 2 weeks and I took along a Samsung Galaxy S4 and bought a Telstra. SwiftKey speeds up typing and increases accuracy. Before I continue, please watch this:. I can't be alone feeling that my biggest frustration. Demonstr...
Email sent by Smartphone?
http://blog.adrianmelrose.com/my-smartphone-disclaimer
On Trusting The Internet, Every Day. Email sent by Smartphone? This is my disclaimer:. If it weren't for smartphones I'd probably have to settle for a desk bound job or at the very least I'd be less able to take on all the committments I seem to have signed up to. Having said that though, here are the downsides for which I seek indulgence. 1) It looks, to the average person, that I am addicted to my device, that I suffer some social disorder, perhaps attention deficit? 3) The tone of my communication may...

Monday, January 1, 2007. The same statement can make two claims:. 1) Explaining how the world really is. 2) Explaining how one believes the world really is. The experience of birth. Saturday, December 16, 2006. Some unfinished thoughts from December 2003, integrating some readings on psychology and behavioral finance -. The three speeds of thought. You just think the action without words and execute it. Or not. So what's the link between this and my memory?

Software, and frogs, and cookies. And software. Friday, August 14, 2015. Integration of the Frog Soccer Game. After getting some testers to try out my frog soccer game. Mostly children) and making a few tweaks to the physics of the frogs and the ball, I decided that it was good enough to replace the old 404 page on Amphibian.com. Not that I'm completely done with it, but it's good enough that if someone finds it I'm not too upset. It turns out that was easier said than done. DOCTYPE html html head meta c...

Thoughts and Ideas
This blog is thoughts and ideas from Arlon Boozer. Discussion is welcome. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. The Wrong Side of History. 8220;The wrong side of history” is a term used a lot in recent years. Have you ever thought about what this statement means? It sounds cool to say, but the message is “I am right and you are wrong if you disagree with me.” Do you suppose President Obama and John Kerry have gained some prognostic powers since they moved into their current positions? Personally, I doubt it. Think...
