Setting Up a Blog. Making the artists of the future, one learning experience at a time. Part of me wants to give up, to tune it out, but I can't. It's a teachable moment. I tell my students that my classroom is a place where their ideas will be respected and valued but that right ends where other's right to feel safe begins. I tell them we can disagree while still seeing the humanity in each other and that what we make must advocate our point of view, not attack others. The Open Art Room.

Setting Up a Blog. Making the artists of the future, one learning experience at a time. Whose art gets made in an art classroom? This, of course, doesn't mean that I skip craftsmanship or ignore it. It means I differentiate. Craftsmanship isn't a directive in my classroom. It's a conversation. My Art 1 students are working on a pixel/pointillism assignment as part of our Artists Solve Problems unit. The unit starts by looking at some amazing art inspired by pointillism,. There were no issues with sloppin...

Setting Up a Blog. Making the artists of the future, one learning experience at a time. Did you know Art 1 students can fly? The Inspiration for this project was the the Elements of Art. It started with presentations, where groups researched and shared examples about an Element. During these presentations, students were responsible for selecting an Element to focus on in a work of art. They took notes or sketched to help organize new information. This is so inspiring! Setting Up a Blog. Making the artists of the future, one learning experience at a time. What Students Really Learn During Bootcamps. This was one of my first realizations about my high school Art 1 classes. When I presented an interesting assignment with lots of choice, many shut down. They asked me to just tell them what to. They wanted steps to check off when I'd planned an adventure. Bootcamps, which I only do with Art 1, follow this format:. During Bootcamps, kids re-learn how to explore and play, to...

Setting Up a Blog. Making the artists of the future, one learning experience at a time. Bootcamp, Meet Flipping. Printmaking is always a challenge to teach and include the level of student choice I like to. It takes a while for even high school students to understand the process, plus the whole image reversal thing complicates it all. Taking the time to teach one printmaking process is a commitment, but I wanted to teach three without spending weeks. The answer was flipping. Your comment will be posted a...

TAB Studio with Mrs. B. Can't Never Does! Now go make some art! October 20, 2016. One day this summer as I was perusing Facebook, I came across a post about a community artwork a woman named Nancy Belmont started. It was a large installation comprised of pvc poles, identifying signs, and miles and miles of yarn. After watching a video about her project, the Unity Project. I knew it was something I needed to bring into my classroom…into my school. The next day, students were asked to fill out a worksheet.

Setting Up a Blog. My goal isn't to teach art - it's to make artists. How to do this? I'm figuring it out, one lesson at a time. Did you know Art 1 students can fly? Most of the time I feel like I belong to the old world; I feel like an old soul. Or maybe, I’m just romanticizing my life. Someday, I would have traveled the world (Korea, Paris, Tuscany! Learned another language, witnessed an aurora borealis and snow falling, rode on a hot-air balloon, spread God's word and hopefully, fallen in love. The beautiful and dramatic Paoay Church in Ilocos set against the clearest and bluest noon sky! Staugustinechurch #missingilocos #architecture #vacation #vscocam. All life ...

Thoughts on a Trip. Always Remember You're a Guest. September 22, 2016. And so it is that the nightlife of Kuta and Legian, the beachfront and active social calendar of Seminyak, the restaurants and relaxed vibe of up and coming Sanur, or the quiet of Benoa are all available depending on what is being sought. In Search of Dragons. September 19, 2016. Of course, that may be a cynical perspective on the motivations, but it is undoubtedly true that returning from somewhere able to provoke envy at the experi...

Sunday, May 3, 2009. Orientalism - Judging for identity. If so, is that really the endeavor of the Orientalist? One might argue that theory. Although considering Kipling a corporate institution or stating that he was trying to have authority over it may seem a little far-fetched, his works are historical and influential and he does try to teach the distinctions that differentiate the west from the east. For instance in Kipling’s poem “We and They,” he makes a clear distinction of what h...They who gobble...

This Isn’t How It Was Supposed To End. 8220;This isn’t how it was supposed to end.”. You looked at me weird, raised eyebrows as if to label me crazy. I couldn’t tell what your face tried to tell me. For all I knew and thought, our little antics should’ve meant more than what your confused and disfigured face showed. I wanted to call it an unattractive mess but couldn’t muster enough courage to criticize those calming, warm eyes. Read more. An Interview with Deutsche Bank. Goodbye My Forever Love. I barel...
