A Thought Experiment

Saturday, February 18, 2012. The second part of the experiment was basically comparing the effect of color of the container of a fluid on the rate of heating of the enclosed fluid. We used a lamp for this part to induce heat transfer by radiation. As contrasted to the graph of cooling, the graph of heating was a straight line. Posted by Pio Calderon. A Thought Experiment: November 2011

http://thoughtsonphysics.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 27, 2011. On Optics and Ray Box Experiments. The first meeting was quite a “new world” for me- well it’s to be expected coming from Physics 102.1 which was all about electric circuits. Well, it’s a sign of relief because I never really warmed up to it. Posted by Pio Calderon. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). On Optics and Ray Box Experiments. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

A Thought Experiment: On Light Intensity

http://thoughtsonphysics.blogspot.com/2011/12/on-light-intensity.html

Sunday, December 4, 2011. The second experiment we performed was all about light intensity. To cut the story short, it was a quick experiment, not taking up more than 30 minutes. It was a relatively easy task- - we simply measured the light intensity from a light source and a laser at different distances from the light source using a light sensor connected to labquest. A Thought Experiment: On Heat and Calorimetry

http://thoughtsonphysics.blogspot.com/2011/12/on-heat-and-calorimetry.html

Saturday, December 10, 2011. On Heat and Calorimetry. Entering the 103.1 lab, I saw a gas stove set up. Asking what it for, I found out that we would be performing an experiment on Thermodynamics. I consider Thermodynamics to be my favourite subject in our General Chemistry courses (16 and 17). Unfortunately, I have forgotten quite a deal on the said subject, so it was nice to rekindle my interest in thermodynamics by performing a simple calorimetry experiment this meeting. A Thought Experiment: December 2011

http://thoughtsonphysics.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 17, 2011. On Resonance and Sound. In contrast to our experiment last meeting (Calorimetry), we performed an experiment regarding waves this week. Specifically, we performed an experiment which demonstrated resonance, the increase in amplitude of vibration of a body due to the constructive interference of the driving force of the vibration’s frequency and the body’s characteristic frequency of vibration. Finally, using v=f λ. We obtained the speed of sound in the tube. Overall, the expe...

A Thought Experiment: March 2011

Sunday, March 20, 2011. On Survey Forms and the Final Lab Meeting. March 18, 2011; 8:30-11:30; NIP R108. Today was the last official lab meeting since classes would end next Tuesday. This meeting, we were quite chill because we didn't have to perform an experiment- we just had to answer a set of surveys documenting our satisfaction with the lab course in general and also the things that we learned in the duration of the course. Posted by Pio Calderon. Sunday, March 13, 2011. This meeting marked the day o...

Wednesday, November 28, 2007 ;. Some of the museums in Chicago have free admission on 26th and 27th of Nov because it is right after the Thanksgiving weekend. My card does not have free admission to Shedd Aquarium, so we used 26th to visit Shedd, and gain free admission anyway. We planned to visit the Museum of Science and Industry and Adler Planetarium after this, and for both of them, we had free admission because of the card. But an Aquarium, and such a huge and well-organised one, who can resist?

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 ;. It was a warmer Sat this weekend, so the kids went out to play. Ds1 rode his bike with Dh and ds2 played on our swings. In the evening, we set off for SLC's Energy Solutions Arena for our live NBA match. Utah Jazz vs Atlanta Hawks. Initially wanted to buy LA Lakers vs Jazz but tickets were all sold out. Then when I became a teacher at hc, my good friend happened to be the coach of the bb (girls) team, and she asked me to try and get the teacher-in-charge post. I though...

We all had a look at his blog today, cool. I have such an illustrious history so I shan't dwell on it, unlike some pple :-). It will just make all of you wonder in amazement again, doubting that I ever got all those awards/ accolades. I think the main reason that spurred me on to finally have a blog is cos I am leaving,. Hwa Chong Institution STP Blog. Tuesday, February 27, 2007. Read this a long time ago and recently rediscovered it on the net. If everyone were to be thinking students like the student in the story below, what an exciting class that would be! Don't you agree, fellow teachers and students? Incidentally, those who enjoy the story will enjoy reading Richard Feynman, who is a "thinking man's physicist". Pick up any of the books about him in the school library - you'll be enthralled. Saturday, March 31, 2007 ;. Our last box arrived today. Those sent via surface mail. I can't even remember what I packed inside till I opened it and it turned out to be mainly the boys' toys. They were inseperable with these toys before we came so I packed them. But they had survived well these mths without these toys like the Noah's Ark, so I now feel I wasted time and money by shipping them over. Sigh. Thursday, January 31, 2008 ;. It's been quite some time since we last had a family drive and outing. This Sat, since it was not snowing hard and the skies were blue, we set off for the Hardware Ranch. It is near Logan, north of Utah, about 2 hours away from where we are. The distance is not that far, but because towards the ranch, there is a canyon and the roads up the mtns are narrow and very winding, so that took a longer time. Also, the roads there were not plowed and thus we had to be careful. The bu...

Monday, October 29, 2007 ;. Antelope Island State Park. Every year, around this time, the Park will have a Bison Round-Up. They'll use men on horses, dogs, and even helicopters to drive all the buffalo to an area where the buffalo can pass the winter. There, they get counted and examined, get medical attention and care as well. The public are invited to watch the round-up and also the tagging and examination of the bison over these weeks. We just went to enjoy the Great Salt Lake, and view some bison.

Thursday, July 16, 2009. You owe it to me. Why should people get penalized for making a whole family? Why should someone who births a child into a life without a father is rewarded? Why are the middle class cut off from education? Please some one explain why we have let our country become like this? Wednesday, July 15, 2009. People who think they are smart. Just to let you know you are not using your brain when you just repeat other peoples thoughts, instead you have just become their "dummies".

Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Malpractice suits are every where these days. Personally, I believe that a good number of them are honest and unfortunate mistakes that a doctor makes. It's just hard when one small mistake by a doctor can make major repercussions. And don't get me started on the lawyer side of things. I looked up some statistics on MedicalMalpractice.com. And the numbers are pretty crazy. 98,000 patients may be killed each year from errors. What Can Be Done? The idea behind credentialing is that...
