AP Literature: November 2007
http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 07, 2007. Symbolism is used rampantly throughout Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. And tulips are one of the less discussed symbols. The tulips, quite simply, represent a Handmaid's menstruation cycle. Every time tulips appear in the novel, Atwood is describing what stage of life they are in. These quotes are ordered from the beginning stage of the cycle to the end:. The tulips have had their moment and are now done, shedding their petals one by one, like teeth" (153). Ordinary, ...
AP Literature: Shakespeare's Tragedy: Macbeth
http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2008/06/shakespeares-tragedy-macbeth.html
Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare develops this tragedy by creating a character who is struggling through the worst battle one can endure – one against himself. This tragic figure along with the bloody imagery, murders, and the dark tone from the start of the play, “ (Thunder and lightning. Enter three Witches. When shall we three meet again /. In thunder, lightning, or in rain? When the hurlyburly's done, /. When the battle's lost and won. That will be ere the set of sun. While a true man. Would have t...

Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare's History: Richard III. My kingdom for a horse! Richard III has such incredible control over every aspect of his life, and even controls the lives of others around him. He has a brilliant mind and is master at using language and betrayal to his advantage. The only real challenge Richard faces in the play is when another young man who is good with words converses with him. Richard’s only vulnerability is exposed during his final moment, in battle. I also found that readi...
AP Lit: Taming of the Shrew-Passage Analysis

Saturday, June 7, 2008. Taming of the Shrew-Passage Analysis. Petruchio is desperately trying to break Kate and have her conform to society's standards of what a woman and wife should be; and, the scene where Katherine and Petruchio are riding into town and he is trying to convince her the bright sun they see is actually the moon is humorous but also alarming. AP Lit: Macbeth-Reflection
http://maryliterature.blogspot.com/2008/06/macbeth-reflection.html
Saturday, June 7, 2008. This play is upsetting because you just cannot help but feel sorry for Macbeth. He was a man that just wanted to achieve greatness and become an admired and respected figure, but with the presence of negativity and ill-intentions he was steered in a completely wrong direction to lead him to that path. Macbeth had no idea that his future would be so dire, even with the warnings from the three witches, which parallels people that disregard signs that forewarn them of the people that...

Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Last Blog, Handmaid's Tale Quote. Last blog. yes! This passage I found interesting, right at the end of Chapter 7. (Page 40). A story is like a letter. Dear You. I'll say. Just you. Without a name. Attaching a name attaches you. To the world of fact, which is riskier, more hazardous: who knows what the chances are out there, of survival, yours? I will say you, you. Like an old love song. You. Can mean more than one. I'm not in any immediate danger, I'll say to you. As D-503 t...
AP Literature: Shakespeare's Comedy: The Taming of the Shrew
http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2008/06/shakespeares-comedy-taming-of-shrew.html
Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare's Comedy: The Taming of the Shrew. Unknit that threatening unkind brow, /. And dart not scornful glances from those eyes, /. To wound thy lord, thy king, thy governor: /. It blots thy beauty as frosts do bite the meads, /. Confounds thy fame as whirlwinds shake fair buds, /. And in no sense is meet or amiable. /. A woman moved is like a fountain troubled, /. Muddy, ill-seeming, thick, bereft of beauty; /. And while it is so, none so dry or thirsty /. But that our soft c...
AP Literature: Sound and Sense #251 The Sound of Night - Maxine Kumin
http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2008/03/sound-and-sense-251-sound-of-night.html
Sunday, March 30, 2008. Sound and Sense #251 The Sound of Night - Maxine Kumin. This stanza the speaker is now focused on the future - they are settled in, maybe a little accustomed to the noises, although still fearful. They are reassured by the definite coming of the "sweet" sun which will save them, and they concentrate on this to keep their minds off of the ever-present night sounds. Sunday, March 30, 2008. Just thought I would see what impressions you had of the religious quality to the work (obviou...

Friday, October 26, 2007. We - Passage Selection. I had no business being here, a criminal, a poisoned man. Never again was I to blend into the precise mechanical rhythm, never to sail on the serene mirror-like sea. My fate was to burn forever, to rush hither and yon, searching for some corner to hide my eyes - forever, until I found the strength at last to go through." (82). I found it interesting that both in Anthem. References are made to eternal damnation in a sense. In Anthem. We - Passage Selection.

Random Thoughts from a Recent Graduate. So I have been working for 3 months now. These 3 months have not been easy – I’ve wrestled with inner demons and almost fell into anxiety and depression. I was so so near to quitting my job. I went into SGH with my eyes closed-shut. Chose a department with I hardly knew anything about and lived to regret it. Next time should learn to always be certain of what your job entails before signing on the dotted line. October 15, 2016. October 15, 2016. October 15, 2016.

Friday, October 26, 2007. A Spectrum of Thought. Always felt that thinking too much will drive an intelligent soul crazy; just as staring at the sun will cause blindness. Friday, December 29, 2006. Sound of silence echoes in vacuum. Like roars of deep sea in waves. Shore of life is left out in dusk. With white bubbles and wet sand. Beautiful rainbow decorate in sly. Gloomy sky about to shed tears. Gush up hush, the child of dismay. Encounter my mind to bind in sway. Talk to me, I am silence in you. The guest of loneliness to glue. Come let us commune blue. Dear to solitary souls wither. Whisper of silence started. Search of my destiny in vain. Sketch of my plans drawn in.
