Where am I now? Sunday, 26 July 2015. The following machines were used to unpack the cotton bale, card the cotton or wool and then create the sliver ready for spinning. These show the bobbins and pirns (the inner part of the shuttle that holds the weft thread) waiting to be wound. threadfairy: January 2014

http://www.threadfairy.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Where am I now? Sunday, 26 January 2014. Using up fabric - nine fat quarters to make a quilt. As we are shortly to travel to India and there is a small possibility that I may buy some fabric I decided I needed to use up some of the 'sets' of fabric I have in my cupboard. These themed fabrics are designed to go together. The first pack was Makower's 'Party Time'. Here is the completed quilt top. I had four different fat quarters of patterned fabric and some small labels. And here is a detail. I thought it...

threadfairy: Argentina

http://www.threadfairy.blogspot.com/2015/07/argentina.html

Where am I now? Thursday, 16 July 2015. Last month I once again had the opportunity to visit Buenos Aires. I really like the city and have found the people helpful and friendly. On the Sunday I went to San Telmo, one of the older sections of the city. There is a huge market along the main street with plenty of off shoots and wonderful hidden courtyards. There is, of course, a great fruit and vegetable market (all under cover) and I just loved the colours and textures. On Tuesday I went to the 'Cementerio...

threadfairy: Wellington to Wanganui

http://www.threadfairy.blogspot.com/2015/03/wellington-to-wanganui.html

Where am I now? Friday, 27 March 2015. After a quick stop at Te Papa we drove around the Wellington Peninsula. It was very beautiful. On our way north we stopped at Paraparaumu to visit the Southwalds Car Museum. There was an excellent range on display, we were there for ages. We stayed that night at Wanganui which is well known for the elevator that rises through the middle of a hill. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Its nearly over . Back to the North Island. Where am I now? Saturday, 28 February 2015. Having been to Hobbiton we had to go to the studios where they made the costumes, weapons and creatures featured in the films. You were not allowed to take photos but it was fascinating. In Wellington they had a costume trail which featured costumes worn by characters in the Hobbit - you could take pictures of these. Sunday, 22 February 2015. The traditional quilts, called Tivaevae, are made from appliqué. Here are just a few buildings. Over the four nights we ...
