An OCA learning blog. Newer posts →. Ex 42 Experimental yarns and concepts. January 31, 2017. Colour placement and composition. For this exercise I’ve selected this sample of Kokka linen to explore. It has an interesting mix of strong colours, and the stylised branches and circular buds are shapes I could use in my yarns. A simple wrap gives equal weight to all seven colours. I’ve chosen this piece if Ikea fabric to inform this exercise. The shape of its bold pattern suggests fallen leaves....Continuing ...

For the monochromatic study, I used a mix of found papers (envelopes, wrapping paper, magazine pages), and textured papers I have made in the past,. I used the black and white photo to inform my use of light and dark papers. I’ve created a very busy collage here, in which the shapes blur into one another in places. This entry was posted in Part 3. You are commenti...

Reflections on stitch: a learning log. Sand and salt bags. August 14, 2015. Just signposting Debbie Lyddon’s lovely 3D work in progress. I’ve had some little pieces drying in the beach hut and they are now done. These are experiments. I don’t know yet if they will be developed into something else but they have several properties that are quite promising. The longer piece was made simply to see how much sand/salt could be stuffed.
