I met Gail while searching for a reputable Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder, in my area. At the time, I had an elderly (12 years old) Bernese Mountain Dog, named Champ. I had been thinking of getting him a sibling. However, every time Gail had a possible litter; it wasn’t the right time for my home and my aging dog. In 1999 after not being able to find a facility with the type of natural living my sister and I wanted for our horses, we bought 22.5 acres in Gray, Maine, put up a barn, fenced in paddocks and pastures, built run-in sheds and opened for business as Thread of The Mill Farm. I talked with a friend who had a farm close by and asked her if she had space where I could keep a horse. She had an old chicken coop that I turned into a little stable, and went and bought me a Morgan horse! Then one day while waiting for another load of hay to arrive, which we were storing in a barn on Route 26, I asked my sister if she wanted to see some land for sale.
