Myatt's Hikes: December 2010
http://myattgreen.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Shamans' Gallery, Grand Canyon. The multi-colored paintings found in Shamans' Gallery are believed to have been painted before 1000BC. Although the National Park Service was made aware of the paintings in 1986 by Gordon Smith, there is evidence at the site that the paintings were discovered in the 1940's as well. A little over a mile into the hike, we encountered a makeshift gate made. The total hike down to Shamans' Gallery losses about 1800 feet over 3.6 miles. Jus...After...

Thursday, April 25, 2013. Chuckwalla Trail, Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. April 25, 2013. Liz at the trail head. Liz and I decided to attempt a short, easy hike today because the kids needed rides to and from different activities after school so we needed to be back early. In talking to a customer at work, they mentioned that the Chuckwalla Trail was a fun loop trail when connected with a few other trails. We got to the parking area, which has 2 out houses and 2 hikers gates through the fence th...

Friday, January 25, 2013. Falling Man (Whitney-Hartman petroglyph site). Jan 17, 2013. The Black Butte Road turn off with the red rock formation in the background. After 1.2 miles on the dirt road it forks. Take the left fork and continue another .7 miles to the parking area surrounded by a wooden fence. Although the road continues through the fenced area, park at the fenced area and look for a small break in the fence just wide enough for a hiker to get through. The lower level of petroglyphs.

Myatt's Hikes: February 2012
http://myattgreen.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 2, 2012. Red Pine Lake Snowshoe. I decided to snowshoe up to Red Pine Lake - one of my favorite spots in the Wasatch Mountains. I was a little nervous to go and went back and forth on whether I should go or not because of the weather. I knew I wouldn't have many more chances to snowshoe in the near future because of my move back to Hurricane in 2 weeks so I decided to go. I made it to Red Pine Lake at 1:30 and waited for the clouds to break so I could get a pretty picture of the sun on...

Myatt's Hikes: July 2013

Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Having the three little kids with me, I thought it would be a good idea to show them where the Virgin River starts, since they love hiking down to it and swimming in it. Having camped at Navajo Lake the night before, the trailhead to Cascade Falls wasn't far away. Soon some stairs took us down to a cool alcove and then back up out of it and to the falls. The falls, which come from a sink hole under Navajo Lake and that start the Virgin River come out of an intriguing cave in th...

Friday, May 24, 2013. Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim. May 24, 2013. Warning: Do not attempt this hike unless you are very confident in your hiking abilities.this hike kicked my butt! Me at the North Kaibab Trailhead. As I started down the trail, I had a brief realization of the difficulty of what I had embarked upon when I was awarded my first view down into the canyon below, where I was headed. As the sun crested the canyon walls to the east, it's rays made the aspen leaves glow as. The next point of interest...

Myatt's Hikes: June 2014
http://myattgreen.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 26, 2014. Lower Calf Creek Falls. After a night of camping at our traditional spot at Navajo Lake, I decided that I would see if my 11, 8, 7, and 5 year olds were up for a 6 mile hike to Calf Creek. I had heard that it was a very beautiful hike and that it shouldn't be too challenging for my kids, who do a lot of hiking with me. The well-marked trail immediately started climbing which instantly struck fear into some of the little kids who much prefer a level grade. But the climbing was...

Thursday, July 19, 2012. Delicate Arch, Arches NP. July 19, 2012. A day after my grueling 19 mile hike down to the Colorado River and back in Canyonlands, I through I'd stick with something a little more tame - a trip to Utah's most famous land mark. I had been to the view point 10 years previous to this trip, but never to the arch it's self so I was excited. Delicate Arch is located in a natural amphitheater of sorts. When we arrived, there were a few people walking over to have their picture taken ...
