The gull roost was well lit and contained 100 Commons and a Med Gull. Frankly, I was too cold and sore to sit there any longer and drove home; both Ring-billed Gulls were on GoingBirding as soon as I got in so presumably came in to roost as I was driving away! Friday, November 7, 2014. Finishing work at 12:30 on a Friday definitely has its benefits and I took full advantage today as I headed west from Surrey to Reculver Towers. In Kent. On arrival the reported ( Rare Bird Alert. Was hidden behind some rocks and with dark clouds threatening to stop play I felt somewhat un-optomistic. Luckily, my anxiety was exchanged for euphoria, as this scarce vagrant from North Africa made an appearance and gave me a few opportunities for a record shot! Other species of note.

A few Speckled Yellows were buzzing around and a pair of Hairy Shieldbugs were joined end on end. A Garden Warbler sang away nearby and within a few yards of a Blackcap doing likewise, for a nice comparison. The roadside vegetation held the usual damsels but no dragons. Two nice tachinid flies namely Tachina fera. Dummy text with HOS Link.

A couple of hours with precious little on either scrape, other than Teal and four Snipe. Just a single Buzzard. On the sea 25 each (approximately) of Eider, mostly males and Common Scoter (females). On the beach the Snow Bunting was down to six feet. Friday, 9 December 2016. No Cettis today, just Goldcrest.

Sunday, September 7, 2014. Just up the road. On Wednesday (3/9/2104) I headed straight to my local patch after receiving a call from my birding pal Dave (Ginger) Baker informing me that there were four Whinchat. Showing at Papercourt Water Meadows. On arrival I found this individual (photo above) but couldn't locate the other three. This was my first. For my local area and also the first I have seen this year.thanks Dave! Another call from Dave on Saturday sent me on my way to Tice's Meadow.
