nine summertime: October 2009

Thursday, October 29, 2009. What do you do with a. 8220;What do you do with a BA in English? Is now a straight and semi-productive member of society whose achievements at her job somehow eclipse the time I spend on Hype Machine and Facebook. I know, right? I didn’t adopt all of the below steps, but if I ever scale back my freelancing stuff and get desperate then I will likely be turning to suppress the impotent guilt that will likely arrive shortly thereafter. nine summertime: postmodernism, and why it should leave hardcore music alone.
http://ninesummertime.blogspot.com/2010/01/postmodernism-and-why-it-should-leave.html
Monday, January 11, 2010. Postmodernism, and why it should leave hardcore music alone. Postmodernism is a wonderful thing. It made it acceptable for people to be weird and alternative back in the 60s, which made it easier for indie/arty/blogger types to be alternative now. It brought about things like pop art, which brought us both Andy Warhol silkscreens and the cover to Sonic Youth's Goo. Both of which can be easily worn on a shirt to communicate one's obscene alternative.ness? Thanks for Tal via Maddy.

nine summertime: remember the titans: then and now...
http://ninesummertime.blogspot.com/2009/12/remember-titans-then-and-now.html
Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Remember the titans: then and now. This is a movie about the first inter-racial football team in some region/“conference” in (mid-west? I watched this movie again recently and realised it was pretty shit. The middle third of this movie (ie. where the general narrative thrust occurs) is essential a repeating cycle of the following scene:. Token racist incident to remind the audience that the movie is about race and create conflict for the characters. Posted by Matt Hickey.

nine summertime: Tell me something I don't know.
http://ninesummertime.blogspot.com/2009/12/tell-me-something-i-dont-know.html
Monday, December 14, 2009. Tell me something I don't know. There is no doubt that music has a unique effect on the human brain. As William Congreve once wrote (and is commonly misquoted) "Music has charms to soothe a savage breast." Neurologist Oliver Sacks has written an entire book, 'Musicophilia', about music and the fascinating influence it can have people, particularly when modern medicine has failed. But for all of music's good, it has committed unto me a heinous crime. Its great power can be u...

nine summertime: Inaugural Post, Or How I Learnt to Stop Worrying and Love the Proverbial J's
http://ninesummertime.blogspot.com/2009/12/inaugural-post-or-how-i-learnt-to-stop.html
Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Inaugural Post, Or How I Learnt to Stop Worrying and Love the Proverbial J's. And I'd love to join the writing team! I hope your Yuletides have been gleeful and consumerist, like an awful Disney-or-similar madcap, hijink-fuelled Christmas caper stacked with insipid family values, starring some interchangeable ex-comedian who may or may not have once been funny, but one day had kids and thus turned to doing solely shitty wholesome family 'comedies'. Not my pick of his catalog...

Ouch My Face Hurts: October 2009
http://ouchmyfacehurts.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 28, 2009. My work times hurts. Funny things happen at work. Last night a 65 year old psychic therapist brought two phone books to stand on so he was taller than me when he gave me a hug. He actually brought them from home and carried them to the studio in his man bag. A strange listener told me she sent me a letter addressed to 'Miss Maddy'. There are some strange people out there. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. My lack of inspiration hurts. Today I am minus inspiration and minus motivation.

Pazzwizzle: Stranger danger.
http://pazzwizzle.blogspot.com/2010/05/stranger-danger.html
Friday, May 21, 2010. So a few weeks ago, I got a message on Facebook. In case you're wondering, that's a girl's name hidden under the pink rectangle. For her sake (and his) I've censored all names in the pictures. They will be henceforth known as Pink and Black. So, do I know Pink? Interesting question. I had no idea where this was headed. I took my best guess. Wow, obviously I didn't know her. Strange. Why would she add me? I decided to just leave it, in the hope that this guy would go away. Okay, so I...

Pazzwizzle: January 2010
http://pazzwizzle.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 17, 2010. Should have put a ring on it. Today was going to be another 'Literal Lyrics' post. However, in my quest for a current single that has terrible lyrics (usually not a difficult search) I discovered this:. That's right. Number 46 on the ARIA Top 50 singles chart is 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)' as sung by The Chipettes. Who are 'The Chipettes' you ask? To quote Wikipedia, ". In 1983." How are they in the charts in 2010 then? Alvin and the Chipmunks. Not content with raping our...
