Throughout both the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War, Ticonderoga was the site for historic battles. Fort Ticonderoga, formerly named Fort Carillon by the French, was constructed in the 1750s and is located east of the former village of Ticonderoga. First settled in 1775 by Samuel Deall, an 18th century developer, he abandoned all that he had and went back to England on the onset of the revolution. In 1804, the town of Ticonderoga was formed from part of the town of Crown Point.
