Thursday, October 16, 2014. So when I said "I'm retired", what I meant was. (2014 in review). Ah yes, fall leaves swirling around outside on this picture perfect, Indian Summer day. For the most part, my 2014 race season is over, save for a couple of potential short running races I may do including Monster Dash 10 miler, Drumstick 10k and Polar Dash. Except for a nagging hip and psoas issue, it's been a pretty good year filled with lots of fun races and events. Fargo "1/2" - May:. I had high hopes for th...

Sunday, February 2, 2014. Ten Years of Tri U Mah. I'm going to take you back a bit. To July, 2004 as a matter of fact. One of my good running buddies, Marcia Lee, had entered the LifeTime Fitness triathlon as part of a relay team. Her daughter would swim; her son would bike and she would run. This "triathlon" thing was sort of a puzzle to me. I didn't quite get how the whole thing fit together, how you'd have energy enough to finish the dang thing, and, oh yeah: the swim. The D R E A D E D. But the seed ...

Sunday, January 25, 2015. Why I Love the Y Tris (inside and out! I'm a little partial to indoor triathlons. After all, that is how I got in to the sport, way back in February of 2005. I entered a race called Tri U Mah. Hosted by the University of Minnesota Rec Center. The event consists of a 30 minute pool swim, 30 minute stationary bike ride and 30 minute run on a treadmill. Winners are determined by the distance covered. Would people be able to tell that I really wasn't a triathlete, but really only a.

amytrigirl: Back to Reality
http://amysrunningaround.blogspot.com/2015/01/back-to-reality.html
Sunday, January 4, 2015. The first full week of January begins tomorrow and so does my return to reality. November and December were chock full of fun, friends, family, food and frivolity. (There was also a lengthy chunk of time fighting a big, bad cold, but who wants to "celebrate" that? In November, I had the chance to watch my friend Mark and my coach, Cathy Yndestad. Warren is embracing his role as "Grandpa", and I'm learning how to be a Banana. Warren and I really enjoy being on the ocean. There...

Sunday, November 18, 2012. Why I am Delusional. I am coming up on (yet another) birthday. The odometer, as they say, is turning over – again. While this birthday isn’t a milestone per se, it does represent an increasing digit that seems to happen faster and faster every year. A funny quirk about the governing body that oversees all things triathlon is that participants must race as the age they will be on December 31. I’ll only actually be for 42 days of the year. For example, I’ll be 54 soon. All that s...

Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Call me a weenie if you must. Best laid plans and all. Woke up last Saturday morning at 4:00 am to rain. Not drizzle. Rain. And thunder. Nothing like a thunderstorm on race day. The only thing better is a cold, windy rainstorm, which we had. Trifecta! The ever hopeful optimistic I am, I still packed up and headed out to Lake Rebecca. Storm had to blow over sometime, right? I grabbed my wetsuit and went back towards the lake to wait out the rain in the bathroom (also has the priv...

Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Day Two: Conversations with Demons. But no. By the time I got back to my hotel from Monona Terrace, my Coach had sent me a text with a revised training plan. Sunday now called for a two loop bike ride and a 40 minute run. Two loops and a 40-minute run". Strangely, those little demons found me at the Residence Inn! Hmmmmm. But I have to check out of the hotel! I have to drive all the way back to Minneapolis! Enter stage left: The good demons: "Time to nut up",. 2) My pace slowed ...

Wednesday, October 31, 2012. To run, or not to run.that is the question. Hubby and I are ready to go to New York on Friday morning so we can run the New York Marathon on Sunday. As of right now, Marathon Officials say the race is on; that adjustments might be made, but come Sunday morning, runners should be able to get over to Staten Island to wait for the race to start. Honestly, I have some mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I am THRILLED. To be running the marathon and ECSTATIC. Honestly, we ...
