Tales from the Sea!: October 2007

Tales from the Sea! Monday, October 01, 2007. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF TIMONEER! The guests arrived with the Mate, and we were off again before lunch, this time to Ville Franch. The Mate had to bring the car around, so it was just Engineer and I again. Anchoring was all ok but the wind built, and made the tender launch off the fore deck slightly scar. Time to try and anchor her again in shallow water. It was useless, small anchors and bad holding! So, now there is a 100 footer hanging off the stern! The bitt...

Tales from the Sea!: April 2007
http://travelingbev.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Tales from the Sea! Wednesday, April 25, 2007. ISLANDS OF THE SUN. February to March 2007. The steamy heat of the Caribbean, often whipped away by the steady easterly trade winds. On theses same winds, yachts carry on their leisurely way through the deep turquoise waters, so it’s no real surprise that there are so many yachts here over the winter season, who could resist the temptation. Grenada is almost at the end of the Caribbean chain of islands, known for the nutmeg plantations that are strewn across.

Tales from the Sea! Wednesday, February 18, 2009. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME. Well, what can I say? Sorry for the long time between writing. If I have not been in touch with you since A long time, this is the story. Passed, had a few pints, as you do. Then went off down to the South of France for a break with some friends. Enjoyed yet another course there, for engineering (a lot more beer drunk at this one! In Newport, things changed for the good. There was a need for a captain onboard Seawalker, and I wa...

Varnishing: Stripping Varnish
http://varnishing.blogspot.com/2007/03/stripping-varnish.html
Saturday, 31 March 2007. This is a guide for removing varnish around and area where you have teak decks. Over time scrubbing and salt water can remove the timber away and you are left with proud Varnish. Water can sit here and often seep down through the caulking and under the teak, causing all kinds of problems you do not want to deal with. What is important above all else, is that the area you are working is going to look fair once the gloss varnish is re-applied. If you are working on an area wher...
