View from the bike – some trail users lack a general awareness of their environment. The I can’t read the signs bike rider…. There are a number of signs painted on the trail that indicates the trail is one way in certain spots. Yet, I have seen more people in my last two rides blatantly riding the wrong way on the trail. To those folks, I say wake up! 8221;, it is not a g...

I found a few things interesting about in this article. First, how hard student loans are to discharge through bankruptcy. The article seemed to indicate it was easier to discharge gambling debt through bankruptcy than student loans. This doesn’t seem right to me. May 13, 2009. June 20, 2009. Blog at WordPress.com.

August 02, 2014. AAPT Summer meeting twitter analytics #aaptsm14. The Summer meeting of AAPT 2014 has come and gone. It was fantastic to get to engage with so many incredible teachers, to hear what they are doing in their classrooms, to catch up with old friends, and make some new ones. The use of twitter at the AAPT conferences has grown over the past few years. Rhett had a post at the end of the 2013 Winter meeting. In New Orleans which showed only 116 tweets using the conference hashtag. I made a word...
Drew's Day: To the student who left the scathing review on RMP - thanks and I'm sorry
http://blog.drewsday.com/2015/03/to-student-who-left-scathing-review-on.html
March 16, 2015. To the student who left the scathing review on RMP - thanks and I'm sorry. I'm not really in the habit of checking up on my "Rate My Professors" (RMP) page, but coincidence led me there on the same day that this post was made by a student in one of my algebra-based physics sections from what I assume is this semester. I suppose that I am a bit heartened that the student was at least thinking about physics on Pi Day. Over the traditional method of only lecturing to students. There are ...

It was accidentally deleted, and I was unable to recover the original post. I rewrote the missing parts and added an epilogue at the end.). The PERC conference kicked off with an interesting talk by Mike Dubson from CU Boulder. There is a great summary of the talk by Stephanie Chasteen. Wrote a series of posts on that. Which you can read about on his blog. Prof ...

September 04, 2013. The building that melted a Jaguar. Have you heard about the building in London that has been blamed for melting parts of a car. By reflecting sunlight off of it? It made the news. Today and was all over social media. Image Credit: Matt Buck. Probably not. Is it close enough to use as a model? That's the fun of trying to figure it out. I found some renderings of the building on its website. Here's what the circle looks like when I put it up to the side of the building:. The blue bar is...

Drew's Day: Bad Vibes - Is there such a thing as "sound therapy"?
http://blog.drewsday.com/2015/02/bad-vibes-is-there-such-thing-as-sound.html
February 02, 2015. Bad Vibes - Is there such a thing as "sound therapy"? I stumbled across this article. Recently where the title asks the question: "Is a Sound Bath the New Way to De-Stress? The subtitle promises to show you "(h)ow to cut through the noise and attain inner peace." What the article actually describes is a mix of half-truths and straight up pseudoscience. For more about pseudoscientific claims surrounding the healing power of sound see the article called " Healing and Harming Sounds.
