Ollie's Birding Blog: May 2014
http://olliesbirding.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 14 May 2014. The rest of the trip we focussed our birding around the Yotvata and KM20 areas, and picked up plenty of good birds, and a noticeable increase of migrants:. Undoubtedly my best find of the trip was this Black Bush robin, initially found early morning at the Arabian warbler site near Yotvata where a few people got on to it. The Black Bush Robin, or quite possibly another, then popped up 20km further south that afternoon, and again 2km further south 15 minutes later! Hi I am employed...

Ollie's Birding Blog: October 2012
http://olliesbirding.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 14 October 2012. A few photo's I had of an acro at Whitby yesterday. It fed almost exclusively in long grass and low bramble, only occasionally popping up into low branches of elderberries. I watched it on and off for nearly two hours, and still not really sure what species it is. It didn't have a tail, which didn't really help. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Birding Dad: March 2015
http://birdingdad.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 23 March 2015. Peregrine - Wigeon- Buzzard epic. Peregrine v Wigeon v Buzzard. Amazing view of a Peregrine that has caught a drake Wigeon just outside Swantail Hide at Wheldrake Ings yesterday afternoon. The Wigeon valiantly tried to escape, being saved by the arrival of a local Buzzard which seemed to really enrage the falcon, which left it's half drowned meal and started mobbing the larger raptor. A few recent shots from Askham Bog etc attached with new 50D. Monday, March 23, 2015. Most of my t...

Birding Dad: Finally meeting the Duke
http://birdingdad.blogspot.com/2015/05/finally-meeting-duke.html
Saturday, 16 May 2015. Finally meeting the Duke. Today, Sol and me got the chance to hook up with Rich and Dan and try not just for Dukes, but Pearl-bordered Fritillaries, two butterflies I have never seen. Even Sol was excited! Some very nice Early Purple Orchids nearby too. The top three photos below are of a female (I think! And the bottom two of a darker male (again, I think! Sol leading Rich and Dan astray. Birding Dad: November 2014
http://birdingdad.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 30 November 2014. Top weekend of excessive booze celebrating in Suffolk for ex-pat Yorkshire birder Dunc's 40th Birthday. Nipped out with Rich and Gaynor to have a look at Westleton Heath on Saturday morning where we soon found flitty and skulky Dartford Warblers. There seemed to be plenty around with probably c10 individuals seen. Also a couple of Stonechats on the heath. Sunday, November 30, 2014. Friday, 28 November 2014. A Taste of Norfolk. Worcestershire Wildlife Trust Volunteers: February 2014
http://worcestershirewildlifetrust.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Worcestershire Wildlife Trust Volunteers. Friday, 21 February 2014. Winter at Hill Court Farm. The Hill Court Farm reserve is a wetland reserve, but even here I don't think we've ever seen it quite as wet! This was the view last week, showing just how flooded some of the fields have become -. As for our intrepid volunteers, we have spent the winter clearing, coppicing and laying a long length of hedgerow which, as we've slashed, chopped and sawn away, has seemed an almost destructive task at times. If yo...

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust Volunteers. Wednesday, 27 November 2013. Hedge laying at Hill Court Farm. Last month members of the Hill Court Farm volunteer work party got stuck into the task of clearing / laying / coppicing a long length of hedgerow. The weather was kind to us and in our beautiful location, surrounded by bird song and watched (rather suspiciously! By rabbits we had a great day. Massive thanks to all those who helped! Clearing the hedge ready for laying. Sara, Hill Court Farm warden.

cliftonbirding: Breeding Bee-eaters
http://cliftonbirding.blogspot.com/2015/08/breeding-bee-eaters.html
Tuesday, 4 August 2015. At the back end of last week news was released of some Bee-eaters. Breeding in a quarry at Brampton near Carlisle, two pairs plus a couple of helpers apparently, I was out with Pete Watson on Sunday and we thought we’d go have a look, the weather forecast wasn’t brilliant but at least it wasn’t raining when we got there, just one nest site on view and at least one bird showed regularly if a little distantly throughout the morning, also a Wheatear. Was viewable from Lower Hide.

Ollie's Birding Blog: March 2014
http://olliesbirding.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, 8 March 2014. The Drakensberg to Cape Town. The final part of the trip was much less about birding and game watching, and more a bit of a road trip and city break. Given the biodiversity and wealth of wildlife in South Africa, it was impossible to get away from great birds, and I couldn't resist the odd stop here and there. Chorister robin chat being skulky. Lemon dove in very dim light under the thick canopy. Golden Gate NP is named after the glorious golden colour of the rock outcrops. Cape B...

cliftonbirding: Showy Sab's and the disappearing acts
http://cliftonbirding.blogspot.com/2015/08/showy-sabs-and-disappearing-acts.html
Sunday, 9 August 2015. Showy Sab's and the disappearing acts. Out with Mark today and we went over to Pennington Flash in Greater Manchester where an adult Sabine’s Gull. Had been found in the week and had been showing well, it was still present this morning and still showing well, a great bird to try out my new camera gear with. After a good session with it we moved on and up to Preston where a first summer Ring Billed Gull. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In search of Storks. Spotting a rare Crake.
