Digital Fabrication: The First Curve

Tuesday, April 27, 2010. This week we were asked to generate a curved using a movement which will occur in our proposed building. I chose to look into generating curves relating to the action of swimming. I analysed the movements of the arms and legs during breaststroke. By re arranging my model I was able to attain a representative curve directly from the movements. I combined the curves generated by the arms and legs to produce my finished curve. I then attempted to reproduce the curve mathematically.

One of the attractive qualities of this site is how it seems to have retained the essence of a quintessential Australian sea side village despite its close proximity to Brisbane. To avoid loosing this through the imposition of a monolithic structure I explored the size of this hotel with regard to the site through a massing model.
