A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. The patch covers Whitley Bay in North Tyneside in the UK. It has a good mix of habitats; coastal, urban, agricultural and woodland sites. Whitley Bay and Beach. The waggonway is a disused railway; the old Hartley to Tynemouth branch known as the Avenue Branch railway line that is now used as a cycleway and footpath. A diary living with nature in East Holywell and beyond. Thursday, 31 July 2014. My wife Gail reckons I spend too much time 'tittivating the garden'. She's probably right (she normally is) but the local wildlife seems pleased. The colony of Tree Sparrows in my garden, which was just one pair in a hole in the house wall two years ago, is now, with the addition of a few nest boxes, seven pairs producing at least sixty young! Taking a break from raising a third brood! Yarrow Plume moth, likes the Yarrow :).

A trip to the Farne Islands is great with or without rarities, and the fact that a Bridled Tern was reported on Inner Farne was coincidental to our trip.
