Death and Taxes | Rocked By Pilates, Rocked by Cancer
https://rockedbypilates.wordpress.com/2012/11/13/death-and-taxes
November 13, 2012. Benjamin Franklin said that the only things that were certain in life were death and taxes. Funnily enough, this week I’ve been thinking of both. I was a bit naughty and failed to submit my taxes on time, so I only filed them this week. Got slapped a little fine, but at least it’s done – electronically I might add. How easy is that to do? Keeping the girls in their environment aka country and school, where they’d feel most secure? What are the chances? But if it did, I know that weR...

Update : I’ve since left the band, a year ago. WDD are still playing in pubs round Singapore. I’ve been singing in a cover band called Whack Daddy Down since 2001. I have never had any formal vocal training and believe me, in the early years that was pretty obvious! We are great friends, I love the guys in the band, they are like family. We probably play once a month in a pub here in Singapore. We don’t do it for the money (as there is none! But we do it because we love it! One thought on “ Rocked! Notif...

Halloween Kids party? Give me my day job anytime! | Rocked By Pilates, Rocked by Cancer

Give me my day job anytime! November 1, 2012. Little Pumpkin had too much candy and threw up. But what I struggled with most was engaging with the 15 children, which I had to do to organise the party games. Come on already, I’m a mum right? Plus, I sing in a band, I sing in front of hundreds of people (disclaimer: the pub we frequently gig at holds a maximum of oh, I don’t know, 30 people? Plus I teach pilates, I am used to giving instructions and have people do what I tell them to do. Right? In a group ...

Getting serious about writing. For reals. Back From the Dead. Asymp; Leave a comment. Greetings, dear readers! I am briefly resurrecting this zombie blog to tell you about my latest endeavor. I’m pleased to report that I finally followed through on my resolution to walk the Camino de Santiago. Or, at least, I booked a flight to Spain, which is. But it’s a good start. I fell in love, and then I fell out of love. I finished the big writing gig. If you so desire! Larr; Previous post. Enter your comment here.

Getting serious about writing. For reals. First Tango in Paris. Asymp; 2 Comments. Undeterred by last night’s encounter with Paris’s ladies of the night. I continued my promenade towards the Seine. I had been driven out of the house by an overwhelming desire for that Belle Époque aesthetic that is so distinctly Paris. I needed a little beauty and romance to lift my muted spirit. I had wandered from my apartment by the Parc des Buttes Chaumont and through the colorful 10. From a block away, I realized tha...

Getting serious about writing. For reals. Asymp; 3 Comments. Today was a work day designated for the professional development of the faculty in my school district. The students tacked an extra day onto their Columbus Day long weekend while we teachers were introduced to the new Educator Evaluation Frameworks adopted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Our day began with a three-hour session by consultants from the non-profit group Teachers 21. Igorous, and T. Alice: I don’t much care where. A Pilgrim’s...

Getting serious about writing. For reals. Asymp; Leave a comment. I took a meandering route out of Boston past the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum, down Yawkey Way, and back and forth across the Charles and soaked up the sights of the city that I have come to love so much. It was tremendously reassuring to see that not much had changed. Little did I know, as I went to bed last night, that they had already been identified and were on the run. 8212; MA State Police. Getting serious about writing. For reals. Things You Might Hear While Not Sleeping in NYC. Asymp; Leave a comment. A homeless man retching (repeatedly but unsuccessfully). A woman forlornly calling someone’s name while wandering in loops around the block. A drunk man bellowing at nobody. The rumble of a garbage truck and the crash of discarded glass on glass. Traffic that never stops. A deafening boom that makes a Bostonian’s heart skip a beat but warrants no sirens. Larr; Previous post. Next post →.
