I was just going through, "labeling" all my old posts, and read through all the posts that are the reason I started this thing - student teaching at a school for the deaf in Spring 2005. Fast-forward to now . Sure, I still have moments of, "What on earth are my hands thinking. Most often when I don't get enough sleep) and while conversing with students, I have those moments of, "Say what. I can, and I do. Catch a lot of wh...

Tales of a Math Guru. Not your everyday math teacher . Saturday, May 13, 2006. Taking Pride in the Small Things. I just unclogged a toilet for the very first time all by myself. I guess this means if there's any toilet cloggage when I'm home in July, I can't make Kerstin deal with it. Now I can go to bed. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tales of a Math Guru. Not your everyday math teacher . Saturday, June 10, 2006. Graduation Photos, As Promised. Here are some select photos from graduation. The quality suffered a little when I shrank them down, but you get the idea. (Hopefully this won't take too long for my family on dial-up.). This is the area where the graduates would be sitting. I sat in the middle section, just about straight ahead. This is the stage before the dean and the other "special people" came in. Entertained Mom and Dad he...

Tales of a Math Guru. Not your everyday math teacher . Friday, August 25, 2006. The Guru is Back Online. Okay, it's been a while. With Regent's exams and getting ready to move, June got busy fast, and I just couldn't bear the thought of trying to post anything through the dial-up connection at Mom and Dad's. But now, here I am in Santa Fe, NM . this evening is the 3-week mark. I just got the internet up and running a week ago, but have been a little busy for funny things like blogging. ;). So first, a disclaimer - I have known some really outstanding elementary teachers who do a great job. But I taught students in junior high who told me that their elementary teacher told them straight up that they hated math. This is not. The way to improve math education. Guess what - elementary teachers are not exactly in shor...

Even if/when I get married (the relative weight on either side of that slash is debatable . a whole other issue), I can't imagine enjoying the kinds of conversations I sometimes hear. Verbal fluff of the social variety. Who so-and-so is going out with, followed by which couples you go to dinner with, and did you hear about their new house? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tales of a Math Guru. Not your everyday math teacher . Tuesday, June 05, 2007. Here We Go Again. So much for updating regularly. And now I can't remember whether I fixed whatever "design issues" were bothering me before. Oh, well. I survived my first year at NMSD, made some great friends among the faculty, and worked with some great students. There were also some horror stories, but I'll share those later. Until then, I'm saving up my energy for that tedious 9-hour drive back to Santa Fe. Here We Go Again.
