The twelfth hole is a short par 3. The effluent treatment works to the right of the tee always adds a pleasant smell to the air. Recently the scrape was reshaped and a mound added at the back to help shield balls from the out of bounds fence. The tee shot is very narrow with a few snall trees between the tee and the scrape. These only catch out those who choose to punch the ball or have a low ball flight. Length: 4903m (Red Tees). Slope: 116 (Red Tees). Length: 5048m (Blue Tees). Slope: 118 (Blue Tees).

History

Prior to 1924, the first known golfing enthusiasts played near Dinham’s Hill where there were a few makeshift holes. Keen golfers could be. Seen practising their swing, beginning somewhere near the boundary of the cemetary and hitting along a course towards what is now the Roadhouse. In 1924 the District Council of Yorke Peninsula granted permission for The Ardrossan Golf Club to use the Parklands for sporting purposes. On 28th January 1927 an Annual General Meeting was held in the Ardrossan Institute...

Hole 17

The seventeenth hole is the first of two shortish finishing par 4′s. At 277m the biggest hassle is the out of bounds fence and the houses on the right, which seems to often catch out the longer hitters. There are also plenty of trees on the left to catch poorly hit drives or players who try to play a little too conservative with their line. The second shot varies in length but golfers all have to deal with the severe right to left slope that always wants to kick balls left down towards 18 tee box.

Hole 8

The eighth hole is not the longest par 3 but it is probably the trickiest. At 136m the hole like the seventh has a pond on each side of the scrape ready to collect stray tee shots. The scrape is hard to hit but there is a severe slope from the right pond down to the scrape, which helps feed poor shots back towards the scrape. The scrape is fairly flat and more long and narrow in size. However there is still some subtle breaks that are often hard to see. Length: 4903m (Red Tees). Slope: 116 (Red Tees).

Hole 4

The fourth hole is a long par 4 with a dog leg to the left. The tee shot is played over a rise and down into a gully. The landing zone for shorter hitters is in the bottom of the gully while longer hitters have the pleasure of seeing their balls land either on the other side. The scrape is a medium sized scrape with a tricky east to west slope. Like many scrapes on the course the slope can cause some big breaks on putts. Length: 4903m (Red Tees). Slope: 116 (Red Tees). Length: 5048m (Blue Tees).

Hole 11

A mound stretching from the front to the right back of the scrape adds a challenge to the second shot, which is often played on a slope from right to left. The scrape is average sized and has a few undulations but mainly slopes in the same direction as the fairway. Overall the tenth and eleventh are potential round killers. You play these two holes poorly and it’s hard to recover. Play them well and you could be on your way to a really good score. Length: 4903m (Red Tees). Slope: 116 (Red Tees).

Hole 14

The fourteenth is a par 4 and the hardest hole for the women. For the men it’s the third hardest but many claim it to be a lot harder. There is a severe dog leg left and many thick trees on both sides of the fairway. Placing the tee shot on fairway is crucial as the second shot is a blind uphill shot that has to negotiate the corner if you are a shorter hitter.
