So one of the requirements to being a harbour pilot is to have nerves of steel and a sense of timing so that you can jump from a moving ship to a rolling speed boat - any takers. Thursday, August 15, 2013. Lahaina - a single banyan tree that covers an entire city block. Main street in Lahaina - lots of touristy shops and stops. Lunch at Bubba Gumps; yummy! Turtles at Ho'okipa Beach. Almost tripped over them before noticing them; they blend right into the surrounding rocks. Before I started this course I had a mental model of myself settled into the school library, surrounded by books, happy to be the stereotypical librarian, bun and everything! It didn’t take long for my mental model to start changing. Can I do this? Can I meet the standards for professional excellence? But, without us, where would the world be?
