Toby Oler is a songwriter, banjo player and composer that lives in Oakland, California. 2015 saw the release of an instrumental album called Thank You Bird Snider. The title is a salute of gratitude to the luthier of Oler’s custom banjo. Of late, Toby’s written a few songs with Elliott Peck. His songs have been covered on record by The White Lightning Boys, Midnight North and Lexi Len Minnich. Also of note, check out Tapscott Sings Toby. Featuring vocalist Michael James Tapscott of the Odawas.

It’s an instrumental album that was recorded live at New, Improved in Oakland with a killer band. Since I hadn’t done any recording that focused on banjo in awhile, I wanted to do a project that put a spotlight on the beautiful custom banjo that Bird Snider built for me.
