Today i threw away. Every day i get rid of five things. Saturday, September 17, 2011. The need to throw away five things every day. there is still some extraneous stuff, but not enough to warrant daily purging. Tuesday, September 13, 2011. One rear windshield. pretty suddenly. One rock. gifted, not discarded. Five rubber whales. but just very little ones. Monday, September 12, 2011. One t-shirt. handed down to me and worn perhaps too long. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Two more little notebooks. The pieces...

Today i threw away. Every day i get rid of five things. Friday, May 10, 2013. A small portfolio of fifth grade art. but i frame the best ones. A tiny notebook. ubiquitous and so charming. One kids' book. i want to keep everything today. Small blue vase. last of five, but finally. Phone charger for the car. it is a tiny bit dangerous to get rid of these. seeking my source: Super Sad True Love Story, by Gary Shteyngart
http://juliasreadinglist.blogspot.com/2012/03/super-sad-true-love-story-by-gary.html
Friday, March 23, 2012. Super Sad True Love Story, by Gary Shteyngart. Oh, it was super sad. Absolutely. Although the saddest part of this satire was the disintegration of American society. The love story was sad, too, though more in a disturbing, pathetic train-wreck-of-a-relationship kind of way than a star-crossed-lovers sort of way. These shifting and combining themes of alienation, along with the beautifully realized dystopia of the almost-now, are deeply affecting, and at times very funny. Lenn...

http://juliasreadinglist.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 6, 2011. November has caught me reading several books at a time, which is always tricky - once I divert my attention it's hard to say whether it will ever return. An Arsonist's Guide to Writers' Homes in New England: A Novel. By Brock Clark, but only got through about half. The tone charmed me at first, but soon grated. He's sort of a modern-day Vonnegut, and his novel would benefit from Vonnegut-like brevity. I'm mid-way through Chang and Eng. By Justin Torres, is a first novel and.

Wednesday, March 28, 2012. The English Patient, by Michael Ondaatje. I first read this book about 15 years ago, and was blown away. I rushed to finish it the day before the movie came out, and thus ruined my enjoyment of a highly acclaimed film. My disappointment stemmed from the filmmakers choosing what I considered to be the secondary love story as their main theme. Otherwise, I remember it as beautiful and moving. What can I say, the book is always better. Links to this post. Friday, March 23, 2012.

http://juliasreadinglist.blogspot.com/2012/03/chang-and-eng-by-darin-strauss.html
Sunday, March 11, 2012. Chang and Eng, by Darin Strauss. Yesterday I told my friend Tessa that life is too short to read anything you don't thoroughly enjoy. Then I went back to slogging my way through this book, which I have been failing to enjoy lo these many months. The premise is pretty fascinating; it's the fictional memoir of one of the original Siamese twins. The writing is good, the story is promising, but I just didn't like it. I loved Darin Strauss' memoir, Half a Life. And look forward to read...

http://juliasreadinglist.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 25, 2012. The Pale King, by David Foster Wallace. This is a posthumous work, painstakingly stitched together from the papers Wallace left upon his untimely death. The editor, Michael Pietsch, describes it as a labor of love, but it must have been Herculean. One can only imagine how great the novel would have been if finished; as it is, we are lucky to have it in this form, and it is fantastic despite its lack of polish. What is the book about? Links to this post. But there can't be too...

http://juliasreadinglist.blogspot.com/2012/03/favorite-wife-escape-from-polygamy-by.html
Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Favorite Wife: Escape from Polygamy, by Susan Ray Schmidt. Honestly, how could I not. This is a memoir jam-packed with drama: fratricide, warring sister wives, international manhunts, child brides, wild parties; you name it. If it were a novel, you really wouldn't buy the story, but somehow as non-fiction it seems believable. Needless to say, I was riveted. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Monday, September 9, 2013. Psalm 90:12 Originally written 4-30-13. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 (NIV). Lord, this is a verse I didn't expect to jump out at me this morning but I see Your wisdom in it. First I arrive home last night at 8:15 to find paramedics in front of my house. I had to park at my neighbors to come see what was happening. Randy was having jaw and chest pains and because he was alone he called for help. We have no idea when our time...

So today i thought. Too often, the thing you want most is the one thing you can’t have. Desire leaves us heartbroken, it wears us out. Desire can wreck your life. But as tough as wanting something can be, the people who suffer the most, are those who don’t know what they want.". I think people would be happier if they admitted things more often. In a sense we are all prisoners of some memory, or fear, or disappointment - we are all defined by something we can’t change.".

Today it Hurts: Mental Disorders. 21 College student. Reflections on depression, anxiety, existence, and growing up. March 12, 2014. By Today it Hurts. Sigh I haven’t been posting. I’ve had the time, I just haven’t had the mental energy to assess my life while putting words to a page. What I’m about to type could be construed as immature, nasty, spiteful—you name it. The truth is, that’s human nature. And at this point, I need to get it out. Continue reading →. December 23, 2013. By Today it Hurts. I rea...
