TokyoPog: May 2011

http://tokyopog.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 May 2011. We went on a school trip to the zoo. There was an Indonesian performance in the park last weekend. The audience were sitting on plastic mats against the mud. The Japanese. Always take their shoes off to go on a mat, whatever the occasion. This part of the park is filled with bizarre wooden constructions. I climbed up one to get the following photo and it nearly collapsed. After the gamelan performance I went to Yoyogi park to the Jamaican. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

TokyoPog: October 2010

http://tokyopog.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 26 October 2010. I finally heard from the Internet people by email. They are going to ring me on Friday to arrange a time to visit. So another week goes by without any means of decent communication. The other day the headmaster gave us an introduction to Japanese caligraphy. Here are some photos. This was my first one. They got subsequently and sequentially worse. Great sign at a station. Girls really do wear hats. Like that with their school uniform here. I checked each rack individually. I hav...

TokyoPog: July 2011

http://tokyopog.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Monday, 4 July 2011. With a few days off I planned to visit Sado Island with my friend Tom. Sado is an island off the west coast of Honshu, the main island of Japan. It used to be a popular place of exile for emperors and noblemen who were dispatched indefinitely to this rather isolated but picturesque spot. You can see the fault line responsible for the tusnami very clearly here. It turned out that even arriving at 7pm was a little late. At the port there were no taxis, no buses, all the shops were ...

I’m back! | beautyisaroundus

https://beautyisaroundus.wordpress.com/2011/12/11/im-back-2

The general life of an oxford student. So last week I went skiing – the sport of the middle/upper classes. I know what you are thinking, she goes to Oxford and suddenly becomes posh- not true. It is the second time i have been (last time was last year on the same trip) and I really do enjoy it… until i start thinking about it too hard. Because what really is the point of hurtling down a mountain on 2 planks of wood, to just go up the mountain and do it all again! It was filed under Uncategorized. Error: ...

https://beautyisaroundus.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/365-days-8

The general life of an oxford student. So as exams neared I think it fair to say i got more and more paniced. In the end, i decided that it was best to take a year out and return to Oxford next year. I don’t see the point in getting a mark i know i can do better than if i took a year out, and I was getting so freaked that i wouldn’t have made it though that week anyway. Sometimes you find solice in the most unusual places- beautyisaroundus. This entry was posted on June 1, 2012 by forgivingnotforgetting.

The general life of an oxford student. Ok, so when i said i haven’t got a CLUE what to do next in my life that is a lie ( ish). I have lots that I’d love to do, just not enough time in my life. I want to travel the world, meet loads of people, work in my own lab doing something genetic based, renovate my own house, run my own hotel be a food critic, and of course i have every little girls dream, to get married in a fairytale wedding. on life and death | beautyisaroundus

https://beautyisaroundus.wordpress.com/2012/01/15/on-life-and-death

The general life of an oxford student. On life and death. One day soon we will all die. It’s a fact, of life, funnily enough, the one thing that is guaranteed for all of us, rich, poor, from Florida USA or Leeds Bradford. Aren’t all these people just adult versions of their 8 year old selves, trying to look cool in the playground, and are we all aspiring to just be popular in life? The general life of an oxford student. So 2 weeks in…. And it’s still hard to get the correct life/ work balance. On the upside however, I have managed to fall back in love with my subject and i am now DETERMINED to get that elusive 2;1. The plan is to PhD still, just, I need to think about other options too you know! In other news- I went to see a picture of Dorian grey at the Oxford playhouse-. The general life of an oxford student. Almost 2 weeks in. So, truth is, despite idolising the 1950’s gal. Unemployment is, well, boring. This week I have mastered the 50’s houswife look, but that feels like all I have done! So I have started back with the science writing (see http:/ obrreview.com/. To see my latest work) volenteering and going to see friends. In one month I start interning =). So this week has shown me. 1) working my sewing machine again is really fiddly. 2) I want long hair. Is it a class thing? | beautyisaroundus

https://beautyisaroundus.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/is-it-a-class-thing

The general life of an oxford student. Is it a class thing? So when i set off from Essex I told my mates, folks and all relatives that i wasn’t going to change. Yet when i returned, my uncle called me a ‘posh git’ my friends yelled ‘Rah’ at me (see also Jack wills and sloane etc) and even my folks reconed id lost the essex twang. Upon returning to Oxford this year, the new intake commented on the fact i sounded form Essex, yet within the space of 2 days… accent gone again! It was filed under Uncategorized.

The general life of an oxford student. So i have been OWL a lot. Sorry about that guys! It’s been super busy these last couple of months with everyone seeming to turn 21, tutorials coming thick and fast, careers fairs by the dozen and a couple of days in the lab- i’ve been really run off my feet. So it has brought me back down to earth with a bump to realise that I only have 2 weeks of term left! Yep that’s right 2 WEEKS! Man, Oxford terms are short…. Lots of dresses to wear = grumpy me.
