Route 66: Day 8: Williams, AZ to Williams, AZ via The Grand Canyon

http://toledonative-route66.blogspot.com/2010/08/day-8-williams-az-to-williams-az-via.html

Sunday, August 8, 2010. Day 8: Williams, AZ to Williams, AZ via The Grand Canyon. Travel Time: 2 hours, 30 minutes on the road; 11 hours at the Canyon. The one and only thing we did today was see the Grand Canyon! Because I had toted along my tripod, I was asked at almost every viewpoint to take someone else's picture - I need to start charging! We did see some wildlife along the rim - including a cute little squirrel and a very nonplussed deer. At the end of the day, we drove about 36 miles beyond the e...

Route 66: July 2010

Saturday, July 31, 2010. Day 2: Joliet, IL to Cuba, MO. Travel Time: 12 hours, 15 minutes. Today began the stereotypical, small-town kitsch part of Route 66. Lots of small towns with quirky signs and roadside "attractions". Unfortunately, it was exceedingly gray and drizzly until about 1 pm. Heading south out of Joliet, we found the first "giant" of Route 66 - a huge fiberglass astronaut at the Launching Pad Drive-In. He's known as the Gemini Giant. And a grain elevator "museum". Good stuff! Then it was ...

Route 66: Day 5: Weatherford, OK to Santa Rosa, NM

http://toledonative-route66.blogspot.com/2010/08/day-5-weatherford-ok-to-santa-rosa-nm.html

Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Day 5: Weatherford, OK to Santa Rosa, NM. Travel Time: 9 hours, 30 minutes. On our way out of Weatherford, we noticed the sign below. We are not quite sure why someone is trying to sell these. We were not in Oklahoma for very long. We did, however, stop long enough for me to get a photo of some of the cows. Lots and lots of cows out this way. No, I don't know why their water tower doesn't say Groom on it. They also have what is billed as the largest cross in the western hem...

Keith calls for Bush and Cheney to resign, in his latest comment. What about the ‘Rule of Law’? July 3, 2007. My question to the Republicans is: What happened to your vaunted ‘Rule of law’? You know, the one you used to bludgeon the Democrats with during the Clinton debacle? Or is it a case of ‘It’s OK If You’re A Republican’? May 24, 2007. Keith Olbermann Rips Rudy G...

2010: A Photo Odyssey

2010: A Photo Odyssey. A photo a day from my 40th year. Day 242: August 30, 2010. While taking a shortcut through an office park near my school today, I spotted this fountain in the middle of a pond. It worked better in monochrome - I especially liked the reflections. Links to this post. Day 241: August 29, 2010. Links to this post. Day 240: August 28, 2010. Links to this post. Day 239: August 27, 2010. Found this single blossom hiding at the very back of my yard. Another accidental planting, I think!
