My husband and I married in Texas and got to experience the applying for a marriage license process first hand. The Thoughtful Texan: Adventures in Tx Government: April 2011

http://toleranttexan.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

The Thoughtful Texan: Adventures in Tx Government. Friday, April 29, 2011. Recently I was made aware that some portion of the country, and the world is under the impression that Texas wants/is hoping to secede from the Union. I was surprised, since I am a Texan and don't have any interest in seceding. My friends, family, co-workers, classmates, and even casual acquaintances have never expressed any feeling of wanting to secede, so I thought,"Why would anyone take that seriously? To help cover the cost of...

The Thoughtful Texan: Adventures in Tx Government: The Rainy Day Fund: Intended for Long Slow Drizzles or Tsunamis?

http://toleranttexan.blogspot.com/2011/04/rainy-day-fund-intended-for-long-slow.html

The Thoughtful Texan: Adventures in Tx Government. Friday, April 1, 2011. The Rainy Day Fund: Intended for Long Slow Drizzles or Tsunamis? The House is voting today on a bill that would use $3.2 billion of the $9.4 billion in Texas'. Perry also stressed that he wanted every budget chopping option exhausted before considering the Fund. Raises taxes and some state fees we could continue to support Texans, get through a fiscal year on budget and not need to touch The Rainy Day Fund. As it stands, Perry woul...

http://toleranttexan.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

The Thoughtful Texan: Adventures in Tx Government. Friday, March 11, 2011. More on Austin Public Schools. The problems are as follows: everyone wants to go to Casis Elementary. Maybe not Casis specifically, maybe Mathews, elementary schools in great neighborhoods (Clarksville, Tarry Town) with low crime rates, schools with high test scores and a very active PTA. So everyone wants a great school for their kid, if you aren't zoned you transfer right? Okay, you transferred! Well, the school fails further!

Becca's Moderate View on Tx Govt. Friday, May 6, 2011. I'd say the MetroRail is inching along. As Surid Kaphle mentions in his blog " A Great Citizen. Although the amount of passengers increased during SXSW, it still was not that useful. The last train left downtown at 11:30pm. I think that the MetroRail has great potential, and will be successful, eventually. Austin needs to dedicate more time and money to make it useful to a larger percentage of the population. Becca's Moderate View on Tx Govt. Friday, March 11, 2011. We aren't forcing you to lay people off. As the Legislative Session continues, the arguments about Educational Budget Cuts heats up more and more. Charles Kuffner singles out Perry's statement claiming that the State Government isn't forcing any layoffs, that decision is made at the local level. Wouldn't you stand up to critics saying that this is what the community of Texas asked for? Becca's Moderate View on TX Govt. Blue Oasis in a Big Red State.

Becca's Moderate View on Tx Govt. Friday, February 25, 2011. Spare Advanced Placement Courses. Spare Advanced Placement Courses. Was an editorial article on the Statesman. Website. The author argues that the budget cut which would deny funding for the Advanced Placement Courses would in fact cost the State more money in the long run. The way this article was written, it seems to me that the author is a parent of a high school student, or has at least had a child successfully go through the AP program.

Becca's Moderate View on Tx Govt. Saturday, April 23, 2011. 10,000 Bachelor's Degree? You've got to be kidding me! Earlier this year, Perry proposed that State Public Institutions offer a $10,000 Bachelor's Degree. Considering I already have $10,000 racked up in Student Loans, and I'm not even done with my Associates Degree, I must say this is a tempting proposal to support. However, after a little more research, I've deemed it extremely unrealistic. With a specific meeting planning degree. Multiple all-...

Becca's Moderate View on Tx Govt: Why can't we speed through Texas?

http://beccadonovan4.blogspot.com/2011/05/why-cant-we-speed-through-texas.html

Becca's Moderate View on Tx Govt. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Why can't we speed through Texas? I'm going to have to partially agree with Lauren H's post in Taking Notice. I do not think that raising the speed limit to 85 MPH in Texas will really change anything. In the more rural parts of Texas, the speed limit is already posted at 75 or 80 MPH, specifically on Interstate 10. What will 5 MPH really change? People know what speeds their cars can handle. If they can't go above 60 MPH, they are not going ...

One of my favorite (easy) fresh summer appetizers is Basil Cream Cheese pesto with tomatoes. The fancy version involves making an “X” shape in the end of a cherry tomato and stuffing the tomato with the pesto filling. I prefer to spread it on grilled bread and top with chopped fresh garden tomatoes to make bruschetta.

Sunday, February 19, 2012. Dear School District Down the Road. While attending a basketball tournament with my daughter, I witnessed behavior from the 5. As your teams’ colors are red and white, and children as young as 10 are taught insensitive behavior, I can only assume this is the way your district chooses to portray itself and that insulting, culturally and racially insensitive behavior is acceptable in Greenwood.
