The War and Peace Blog: November 2011

http://www.tolstoyswarandpeace.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

The War and Peace Blog. Saturday, November 26, 2011. As I was reading chapter 3 in Book 13 of War and Peace. I was struck by Tolstoy's description of Pierre. Pierre is now solid and strong and has a calmness in his eyes. With all of the turmoil Pierre has had in his life, it is interesting that he now shows these changes. Monday, November 21, 2011. The Burning of Moscow. Saturday, November 19, 2011. I would not dare to say that love is one of the most important themes of War and Peace. And if we admit th...

The War and Peace Blog. Friday, September 30, 2011. The Symbolism of the Old Oak Tree. In our class discussion on Thursday, Iulia’s question about the association between the ephemeral oak tree and Prince Andrew’s transformation prompted me to wonder why Tolstoy chose an oak tree, specifically, to reflect Prince Andrew’s change. Is there greater meaning hidden in Tolstoy’s deliberate choice of an oak tree, which the reader easily overlooks? Or is an oak tree simply Tolstoy’s favorite tree? Throughout the...

The War and Peace Blog: Was Napoleon Stupid?

http://www.tolstoyswarandpeace.blogspot.com/2014/12/was-napoleon-stupid.html

The War and Peace Blog. Wednesday, December 3, 2014. I am extremely curious about Tolstoy's explanation of Napoleon's decisions once he reached Moscow. In book 13, Tolstoy discusses Napoleon’s horrible decision making after the French arrive in Moscow. He does not prepare winter clothing, he sets the troops free in the city, and does not attempt to engage Kutuzov in any more battle. So, why do you think that Napoleon made these decisions? Or do you think he made some bad decisions at the wrong times?

Books, writing, feminism, reality tv, teaching, life, etc. Book Review: In My Shoes, by Tamara Mellon (with William Patrick) →. October 14, 2013. I blogged about children’s and young adult literature for a few years. I wrote daily, participated in the community, organized events, made friends. It was a lot of fun and I was up on everything happening in children’s and young adult books. When a personal crisis hit, I took a break from blogging. I had every intention of returning to my previous blog. You ar...

Being so frustrated, lately, over the ever worsening condition of healthcare reform in America I posted this on my facebook as my status and gathered these responses:. So, by "Healthcare Reform" What they mean is NO public option but YES enforced buying into private healthcare? Hmm must remember to look up the definition of "Corporate Fascism.".
