Tom's wanderings by foot, bike, and kayak. Gorges of the Tarn. The Massif Central of southern France is composed of high limestone plateaus cut by deep gorges. The Tarn River cuts one of the nicest. For our last kayak outing with our Palavas Sea Kayaking club we spent a long weekend with 6 other sea kayakers exploring the river in plastic sit-on-top kayaks. What a blast! Tom's wanderings by foot, bike, and kayak. Paddling Lagune de Thau. 15 kayaks and 1 Mercedes. We unloaded and launched at a public aquatic center that has a sailing club, a kayak club, and a boat launch ramp. There we were joined by several kayaks from the Sète kayak club, which is quite small, only 30 members. It was a flat calm day with temperatures in the low 60s, making for a relaxed paddle. Antoine was our leader for the paddle. Ellen enjoyed paddling her Necky Eliza. Paddling among the oyster tables.

The oar is supported by an intricately carved forcole that allows up to 8 points of contact for maneuvering in different directions. A gondola emerging from a a very tight side canal.
