Thrush – Prevention & Cure. February 15, 2012. Thrush is an anaerobic bacteria that eats away at the horny (dead) frog area of the horses foot. Thrush will create a foul offensive smell in the cleft of the horses frog. Not only will you notice the smell, but when you pick your horses feet out you will notice a black tarry discharge.
